Avoid if you have an allergy
When ordering my friend informed the waitress that they had a nut allergy (as he does whenever he eats out). She was lovely about this and told us that she would check with the kitchen.
A few minutes after this, a man who we believe was the owner came over to discuss this with my friend. The first question he asked was whether he had his “medication" with him "just in case", which did not fill us with confidence.
He then spent approximately the next 5 minutes explaining (in the most patronising tone I can describe) the importance of informing people of an allergy and how you need to be more careful. That it is life threatening, that in his kitchen he uses lots of different nuts and he needs to know so he can prepare my food separate. That he needed to protect my friend, and also protect himself. He listed every type of nut there is and that his staff are trained on allergies. He proceeded to go around the same points again and again, as if lecturing a toddler on why they need to be careful.
Now my friend is a man who has had a life threatening allergy since he was 6 years old and has never gone into anaphylaxis shock, through being careful. The public lecture that he received from this man was humiliating, upsetting, and degrading. I have never witness someone being spoken to in such a condescending way, never mind by a man who should have been there to help with the order.
The industry standard is that restaurants provide the customer with the information as whether the food "contains" any allergens, whether it "may contain" any allergens, and what other allergens are used "in the environment". This gives the customer all the information they need to assess the risk and make their own decision. After a great deal of time with this man my friend ended up having to request to see the packaging of the bread as he would only be vague that it may contain "other" allergens.
I would like to stress that this 1* review is entirely due to being spoken to in such a humiliating way. The food was delicious, high quality, and we enjoyed it. And both other waitresses that served us were polite, helpful, and chatty. I cannot recommend them enough. It was a shame that in order to have this food, he had to sit through a humiliating lecture in front of...

It was full when we got there and we were given menus to look at while we waited for a table to become free.
I know they were busy but we were not warned how long the food was going to take to come (and it was a really long time!)
My wife ordered the bacon roll with extra mushroom. Plenty of bacon and very good mushrooms.
I got the homemade lasagne which was also really good. Nice big portion, definitely homebase and smothered with melted cheese on top!
Unfortunately my wife's bacon roll came first, and by the time my lasagne arrived at the table she had almost finished eating. It shouldn't have been hard to make them arrive at the same time.
I also had a very nice latte (would definitely come back for a coffee)
Service was very nice though, but they need to work on their food arrival times, and expectation management when the...
Read moreI had brunch with my husband and good friends on Saturday. It was very busy and the owner explained our food would take time to be made. He was very attentive and looked after us very well. In fact, he visited all the people's tables making sure everyone was satisfied. When the waitress took our orders, she asked about dietary requirements. There was lots of vegetarians options on the menu. I had homemade courgette and leek soup with Feta cheese and the mozzarella cheese, pesto and tomato sandwich which was delicious. We all had hot drinks and cake as well. The carrot cake was very moist and had a decent cream cheese frosting. Ww were asked how our food was during our meals. I always think this is an important part of a dining experience so things can be rectified if they are not right. We all enjoyed our meals very much. The menu had lots of choice. We will definitely...
