Velvet Room Northampton — Restaurant in England

First time going and will be the last. Very slow service throughout to 2 hour brunch. 6 people paying £35 for a bottomless brunch and having to flag down someone every time we needed new drinks, extremely slow service with us having 4 drinks each so was not worth the money for a bottomless brunch. On our last round of drinks we had found ants in our drinks which one person had to spit out as it went up their straw, when telling a member of staff they laughed in my face and found it extremely funny which I don’t find funny at all, a manager was then sent over to us who also seemed to find the situation funny and even made a joke of offering us a drink ‘ant free’ by the reactions of the staff it seemed to indicate they are aware of an ant issue and are not bothered by customers experiencing this. After talking to the manager who offered more drinks i requested the bill as we did not want any more due to any issue, all of us paid full price and as leaving the door was stopped by a member of staff as they assumed we had just got up and left without paying and questioned us loudly in front of other customers challenging as if we had not paid, this was extremely embarrassing as being young adults and people staring thinking we are just going to get up leave. Incompetent door staff; Feel the need to write a bad review which isn’t something necessarily in my nature purely due to the door staffs incompetence and lack of reasonable behaviour. After booking with a lovely lady over the phone, who assured a booking wouldn’t be required and informed us of the dress code, which we would naturally adhere to to the doorman was adamant upon refusing entry for some unspoken reason. We proceeded to inform him we had spoken to a lady over the phone who assured we would be fine to get it, after taking note of our name he told us that lady was no longer here, regardless of the fact we had provided no identifying details of this woman. Whilst denying our entry he was letting groups of people and other couples in which was hugely confusing to us, eventually we spoke to the manager who let us in and was very kind. For a new place this venue looks so run down. It’s dirty and not a nice place to eat/drink. Food was so expensive and was completely tasteless. Drinks were very expensive. The toilets were dirty and had no toilet roll. NO DISABLED TOILETS which caused issues for someone who was with us with disabilities.

Unfortunately it was slow service and not very attentive. Will be telling everyone I know not to visit this place.

Edited for reply: As mentioned the toilets were dirty, all out of toilet paper and clearly weren’t tended to. Unless you do not want disabled guests in your venue, which is discrimination, then I’m surprised you don’t offer disabled toilets. The booking was not under my name but as a visitor to the venue I thought I’d leave a review. We came in the start of June for a girls night out. It’s a shame because I honestly think with a few changes this place could be great. Hopefully best of luck...
