Hi. I have just got back from the Marmis and I can honestly say I really wish I had gone somewhere else. Northampton has plenty of good restaurants and I chose a really bad one! The only good thing about the place was the waitress. She was so pleasant I could have forgiven the place almost anything apart from serving really bad food, charging a fortune and probably the rudest manager I have ever encountered in the world..
I had to entertain some business colleagues tonight from out of town so rather than going to a typical restaurant I thought I would try something different and go Turkish. I have had lots of great holidays in Turkey and just love the people. Well what a mistake. I just paid £93 yes £93 pounds for a platter of the cheapest cuts of meat you could buy. I am talking dog food quality. When I complained to the manager (or should I say rather the Fat Controller) he simply told me I did recogonise good food and I was not welcome in his restaurant and I should never come back.
Well he is right about one thing: I will never go back. We all eat out a lot these days and we all know good food and good service. This place has neither. I was at the Britannia the other day and just happen to pass a light hearted comment to the waitress that my meat tasted great but it was a bit over done and within minutes I had the manager at my table with an offer of a fresh plate. I thanked him as said it was not necessary but still he insisted on refunding the whaole palate.
Not so at the Marmis. Mr Fat Controller simply said "No one else has ever complained" so it must be you. So I paid my £93 pounds and left the food and walked around the corner to Hi. Look all I can say is eat well, live long and be happy but please steer clear of the Marmis and the Fat Controller and give your money to restaurants that supply good food and have good...
Read moreDelicious food, a nice place to eat in, with great decor and level of music. I have eaten here several times, with family and friends, introducing new people to what can only be described as mouthwatering flavours. As soon as you walk into the room, you can taste the air, which adds to the atmosphere. The lamb is tender and the freshly made pita will leave you yearning for more and more bread. Just outstanding!
The one drawback I have found is the staff, who have often come across as a little snooty. We’ve been told a couple of times that we ought to have booked ahead (for a table for two), then taken up to an empty room, which didn’t fill up throughout the night and had no reservations.
They also have a takeaway menu on the wall, but become unhelpful and unfriendly when you try to order a take out instead of eating in, making it feel awkward.
Overall, if you are looking for somewhere with a good atmosphere and delicious, Turkish food, try here. Do not order a takeaway, it makes...
Read moreEdit to original review: My score has been downgraded as we were recent turned away from a prebooked table, likely be we had children in our party and they probably thought that they'd get more money from adults waiting for a table. I can't honestly fault their food, but denying people a pretty booked table is a poor way to treat regular customers. We'd eaten there for years and offered to bring family who had two lower School aged children, for the first time ever they had "no record of our booking'' despite me being able to show them on my phone the call I'd made to make the booking, AND THE CALL THEY'D MADE TO CONFIRM IT! They took one look at two well behaved children and cast us aside. Fortunately the other Turkish restaurant down the street were more than welcoming to the whole party. Droped a £20 tip on the £150 order. The Marmaris' lose...
Amazing Turkish grill, this is proper Turkish cuisine, rather than post pub kebab fair. Great value. Awesome atmosphere. Highly...
