Booked over the phone for a table for 3 at 1815 on a Monday evening. Overall a quiet atmosphere with lots of tables available despite being fully reserved online. A steady flow of delivery orders were going out but that is part of the trend nowadays and shouldn't be used as a scapegoat to explain why our experience was so poor. 1 round of drinks, 2 starters and 3 mains were ordered by our group; the time between being shown to our outdoor table (with no heat lamps and placement practically on the town centre footpath for a not so exclusive, secluded dining experience) and leaving was just shy of 2 hours. It was roughly 40 minutes between finishing starters and being served with mains. This felt minuscule compared to the time spent sitting in our seats cold and miserable between finishing our meals and waiting to pay our bill. In the end we mutually agreed to leave the premises with a sum of cash being placed under our plates as we were confident no members of staff were interested in providing us with service. Out of respect for business we rounded our payment to the pound coin and silver pennies; however we feel the actual value of our experience was well below that of the amount of money we handed over (over £60). Despite our group clearly being ready to pay and leave upon eventually receiving our bill, staff walked past us frequently without acknowledging our presence; failing to offer more drinks, desserts, payment options or an explanation for why service was so compromised. During our time spent, larger groups of people were arriving yet they were dining, paying and leaving before we were presented with our final bill. Food portions were small given the prices advertised. My group were almost convinced they sampled the children's menu by mistake when our mains arrived. The buttermilk chicken burger was finished in minutes and would feel more at home on the starters section of the menu. The pasta dish was uninspired and deprived of any of the cheese flavour zing advertised on the menu which left a bad taste to my friend who has a healthy knowledge and interest in Italian cuisine. This eatery was suggested by one of our party after enjoying a more than reasonable service and dining experience just days prior to our visit, but our friend who suggested Wildwood was almost embarrassed and he even offered to buy us to McDonald's to fill ourselves up properly. I understand the difficulties in the catering / hospitality sector recovering from the lockdown situation but there was a healthy level of service / front of house staff for the amount of customers that were visiting at the time so this can't be a reason to justify the lack of service. Communication and service from staff is the main negative factor from our visit and I am confident it could not be worse should we...
Read moreFirstly a really nice place to eat, attentive friendly staff. Secondly the food was very tasty, I had philly cheese steak sandwich with fries and creme brulee for afters. My wife had buttermilk chicken in a bun with fries and our little boy had the kids menu burger with fries with a free pudding. Now the negatives unfortunately the meals were rather small. Now I'm normally a big eater but understand you aren't always going to get big portions just because you eat big but there was barely enough steak to make a sandwich and the tasty toasty bread was small and sliced thin. Plus you had to pay extra for fries and at 3.95 or 4.95 you got a small cups worth ( which seems to be a thing in most places now) the philly steak itself was about 13 quid. The creme brulee was lovely but finished it in 2 minutes barely enough for a dozen mouthfuls. The best deal was out little lad got his with a free pudding for just under 8 quid and he probably had more than me and my wife. The meal came to 65 quid with a drink each which is a lot of dollar for lunch ( again I understand this is probably an average) but then they chuck on 8 percent tip charge. Now you don't have to pay this but when your asked as your paying if you want to pay the service charge I think this puts most people on the spot. A better way would be to have it visible on the card machine and you can press yes or no without feeling pressured to pay it, more discreet. Now again we really enjoyed our meals but I still felt hungry when I left , my wife said she was full but the meal was rather small. We can pay the same amount around the corner at Unami and eat as much or as little as we want. Unfortunately it just didn't represent value for money, I would go if money isn't an issue and your not a big eater but if you like a reasonable size meal then I wouldn't bother. Ashame really as the food really was very nice and if it weren't for portion sizes we...
Read moreBooked a table for 4 (one child, three adults) last saturday. Arrived in good time for a our table with us seated immediately. Ordered drinks, starters and mains at 1905hrs. Drinks arrived pretty much straight away.....then things went a little sideways.
At 2000hrs with a rather irritated child and other half, after watching everyone around get their starters and mains I approached a member of staff. Just before I got to her another couple were making their feelings known on the level of service and exiting stage left.
On speaking with a very pleasant lady she explained the kitchen must not of got our print out and that she would sort it asap.
To her word she did and within 10 mins we had our starters. Shortly after that we got our mains. Unfortunately it appeared the chiefs had decided to add a significant amount of spice to both the seafood linguine and the penne ale norma. I appreciate that both dishes have a level of chilli but in all honesty the amount added ruined both the dishes.
We decided to skip dessert in favor of going to the nearby Creams.
The manager did remove the starters from the bill and provided a second round of drinks on the house. Both nice gestures but unfortunately we left wishing we'd gone elsewhere.
Having visited Wildwood many times in our home town of Stratford-upon-Avon and always had great service and food, this was a big departure from what...
