We have recently stayed at the Red Lion in Hythe when visiting for the weekend and I have to say that the room wasn’t a very nice place to stay in. First of all, we were directly above the kitchen and it was SO SO hot that not even having the windows open or the fan on (which was caked in dust) helped. When we did have the windows open to try and keep it cool, the noise level from the cars was astronomical and it seemed to go on all night. There was also a strange rattling noise coming from the kitchen window directly under ours which seemed to continue into the early hours of the morning (like someone was banging against the window). The bed was comfortable but in hindsight of everything else, it didn’t really matter because we couldn’t sleep anyway. We had a really long day on the Saturday so only having 3 or 4 hours sleep the night before wasn’t great. Whilst I know I could have mentioned these things during our stay, I fully understand that they’re a pub not a 5* hotel. Aside from all of the above, the staff were very friendly, the food was great and the location is beautiful. I absolutely recommend this pub for great food or some evening drinks but I wouldn’t recommend staying here unless you can...
Read moreMost friendliest, helpful staff ever! She was such a delight. She greeted us within seconds of entering and made us feel truly welcomed. The menu had a good selection of typical pub foods, but not so extensive that you can't decide, as well as a selection of specials on the board. Absolutely nothing was too much trouble... We could change components of our meals with no bother IE change fries to sweet potato fries! Everything was piping hot when it was served. My gammon was incredibly tasty, the sweet potato fries ware deliciously crispy and the egg was cooked to perfection. My son would suggest slightly more seasoning in the burger as it was a little bland Good sized portions, so that we left feeling satisfied! My son and I shared a cheesecake for dessert. The only suggesting I would make is, to offer mini dessert and coffee combos... For those of us who have a sweet tooth and really want a pudding, but just don't have the room 😃 The decor was simple, yet light, bright, spacious and spotless. The beer garden was a good size, tidy, and nicely...
Read moreThe room was booked by my employer for a one night stay. I arrived to check in at around 6.30pm and was asked if I wanted breakfast. I confirmed that I did and I was asked to pay £12 in advance, which I did. I confirmed that I would be down for breakfast at 8 am. The room was clean and pleasant enough and I had a comfortable night's sleep.||When I went for breakfast I was greeted by the housekeeper who offered me tea. I then heard her on the phone to the pub's owner, saying there was no Chef. She asked the owner to speak to me, but she wouldn't, leaving the embarrassed housekeeper to apologise and inform me that despite me paying in advance that there would be no breakfast. I was promised a refund, but the housekeeper wasn't authorised to refund my card payment. I was asked to leave my details to be refunded but by the end of the day I am still...
