Plainsman — Restaurant in Gedling

I deliberately left my 14year old son outside and asked the barman if I could bring him in for a meal because it was 8.45pm, so didn't know if children were allowed in. I was told there wasn't a problem ,therefore I bought a round of drinks that came to £16. We got a table and was looking at the menu to choose our food. Literally 7 minutes in and a manager approaches us and informs us we have to leave by 9pm because no children allowed then! Immediately I said we had asked the staff before even letting my son enter and we even told them we were going to order food. He didn't address the member of staff about relaying the incorrect information to us. I then enquired if we could finish our drinks off outside, to which he replied no and they would lose their licence if he permitted that. I politely told him it wasn't our fault and I intended to consume our beverages, as I wasn't wasting my money. He started walking off and turned back round and said I should be grateful that he was allowing us to finish them and not make us leave straightaway. I have worked in many pubs and this was terrible customer service. In addition, the staff member that initially told us children were allowed in should be full]y aware of such a basic but terribly important piece of information. This pub is local to me and the rude and unprofessional behaviour has tainted my opinion of this place. I think some staff training needs to be done rapid at this...

We went as a family of 12 to celebrate my Dad’s birthday and the whole experience was absolutely dreadful. What should have been a special and memorable occasion was completely ruined.

We were told there would be a 30 minute wait for food, which seemed fair enough, but in reality we waited 1 hour and 30 minutes before anything arrived. When meals finally came, they were incomplete and the quality was shocking. • The children’s macaroni cheese was lukewarm, chewy in places, and missing the vegetable sticks advertised on the menu. • A steak was overcooked and missing items. • Yorkshire puddings and parsnips were burn making them inedible, the gravy was congealed, and worst of all, a hair was found in one of the pies. • Meals were served at different times, so half the table had to sit waiting while the others ate.

When we complained, the manager told us that the chef had called in sick and that she was cooking instead, despite being seven months pregnant and “not supposed to be in the kitchen.” While I sympathise with her situation, we should have been told this before ordering. We would have chosen to leave and celebrate elsewhere, instead of watching my dad’s birthday be completely ruined.

Yes, we did receive a refund, but that doesn’t undo the embarrassment, stress, and upset caused.

WARNING!! : I ordered cheese and chips with a pertain of battered garlic mushrooms and to be fair I've always enjoyed their chips they're great in taste and the cheese goes nicely with them. I have gave 1 star because of the huge disappointment in battered mushrooms that I have received I believe there was 6 in a pertain and I have had to throw 4 of them away I had a bite of the first one and it was absolutely FULL of grease and oil and was tasteless all I could taste was the oil and grease so I had a bite of a 2nd one hoping the rest wouldn't be like that and as I bitten into it the still red hot oil or grease squirted out of it burning my mouth and face where it has hit... It has clearly not been left when came out thr fryer I have worked in fast food before and you're meant to drain it abit which wasn't done in this situation they've just cooked them and took them straight out with no drainage SO PLEASE BE CAREFUL if you are ordering battered mushrooms cut them in half first to drain any oil or grease that they have left on it as there was loads in mine and after it burnt me I just threw the rest away what a waste of £5 in total I spent on a meal that ended up not fantastic and in the end burning me.
