We ate here as a family and sadly would not return. Pros Front of house staff were friendly, sat us at a table of our choice and got highchair for us, colouring sheets and crayons etc. Waiting staff were friendly. Food was pretty good, especially the feta, dolmades and aubergine. Some atmosphere to the place. Murals on walls, etc. My son loved the Medusa transfer on the window. Cons My salt fish got completely forgotten. After 25 minutes had passed and all other dishes had been brought out, I prompted them. They went to the kitchen to check and said it would be a few more minutes (clearly just started cooking it then and there). When it finally arrived both the batter and fish were uncooked in the middle. Revolting. They did knock the price of this dish off the bill, to give them credit. All puddings came out but I had also ordered Greek Mountain Tea, which sounded really intriguing. After 15 minutes my pot of tea still had not arrived so maybe it really is a myth. I will have to experience its magical properties next time. They also knocked this off the bill. Quite expensive for what it was. Portion sizes were modest. Had to order a lot to feel satisfied. We have satisfied our curiosity but sadly would not return.

A solid 4 stars for our visit today, just before Christmas 2023. We had four meals from the lunch menu, which is served Monday to Friday 12 noon until five. Two courses for £9.95. We spent just over £60 for four meals & drinks. The restaurant is located central to the Quays in Gloucester docks in the building that was occupied by Carluccios. The restaurant was nicely decorated for Christmas. We were quickly shown to our table, a booth next to the window. The service was prompt by a pleasant and helpful waiter. We ordered four meals from the lunch menu, which all arrived together and were well presented. The food was good, nicely cooked and very tasty. The Greek bread was good as were the accompanying sauces. The Greek salad of tomatoes, cucumbers and feta cheese with onion was also very good; certainly very plentiful. It wasn't bad value for money. The restaurant was clean, no tables littered with 'dead' plates and cutlery. Level 9 Google reviewer; 900 plus reviews, 1.4 million views and over 11,000 photos with around 43 million views and still going strong 💪. Check out my other reviews 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟.

Very bad experience. I am a Greek chef, I was in Gloucester and all I wanted was to have a nice and quick meal with a nice Greek bear under the sun. It took them 25 minutes to get us 2 bottled beers, a coke and a ginger beer. 35 minutes after we sat at the table, came the appetizer that was a portion of pitta bread. 10 minutes after that we asked for the rest of the appetizers, that were a portion of kalamari and a Greek salad. But they told us that those were not appetizers, but main courses. So finally after an hour waiting and 2 times that we complained, food arrived. Food was overcooked, Greek salad with no olive oil and salt and definitely not a main course portion. Also to mention that the prices were more expensive than London. Not Greek "Filoxenia" at all!

Our experience at this restaurant very disappointing.

Ordered off the set lunch menu ordered two teas and tap water at the same time. Took a long time for the starters to arrive no drinks while waiting either. When the food did come one wasn’t what we ordered! but it’s was good so we didn’t say anything our drinks arrived at the same time as food it was chaos trying to fit teapots etc .. on the small table The teacups and teaspoons and water had been forgotten so had to wait for these it was chaotic. Had this have been our only problems then we wouldn’t have minded but unfortunately, things did not improve. Took an age for table to be cleared we had to ask!! We waited for our main meal after about 30 minutes and several attempts to attract attention off a member of staff I went to the bar i spoke to the male assistant manager who was hanging around! I said that we thought our main meals had been forgotten he responded in a very curt, rude manner and if looks could kill I wouldn’t be here now!! He said our food have not been forgotten and that they were very busy in the kitchen!! I expressed disappointment that nobody had been to our table to check on us we could have wanted a drink etc..

Hey presto !!!!’ within 30 seconds the food arrives. Plates scolding hot!!! FOOD barely warm very dried up rice absolutely inedible. I called the waitress over and asked to speak the manager I told her we wanted to pay for what we had eaton and go. We saw the waitress tell the assistant manager. He did not come over to us all of a sudden he seemed to busy himself so we were left waiting again. We went up to the bar where he was again just hanging around! I said you’ve ignored us he responded in an aggressive loud voice annd argued with me saying that he had not ignored us and that he was dealing with other customers. Totally untrue we were watching him he was ignoring us!! He just could not be bothered! He told us “Have it on us and leave!” Just to note after nearly 60 mins we had a starter and a cup of tea. We couldn’t get away from the place quick enough.

The attitude of the assistant manager was appalling, this person should NOT work in a restaurant especially at a senior level if he can’t deal calmly and professionally with customers especially when the problems are of their own making he’s in the wrong job or needs done serious training.

The whole experience was very very unpleasant we will not be frequenting again.

I wasn’t looking for sympathy today.

I went for a walk, slow and heavy. I’ve had a heart transplant, and now my kidneys are failing. Most days, it’s a struggle just to get upright. But I force myself to walk — because I know if I stop trying, I’ll fade even faster.

I wear a feeding tube, which draws stares. People don’t mean to be cruel, not always, but it still hurts. I don’t go into restaurants much anymore. It’s easier not to be seen.

But today, I passed The Real Greek and something in me whispered, Try.

So I stepped inside, bracing myself.

A young woman named Hannah greeted me. She smiled, genuinely, and asked where I’d like to sit. I pointed to a quiet corner, away from the other tables. Somewhere I could just be.

She didn’t flinch. She didn’t make me feel strange or broken. Just human.

She handed me a menu and said gently, “Take your time.” Later she came back, looked me in the eye and asked, “Are you alright?”

I told her the truth — that I’d had a heart op, that I was on dialysis, that things weren’t great. I didn’t say it for pity. Just… to say it out loud. Because sometimes carrying it in silence gets heavy.

She listened. Really listened. Then she helped me pick something small I could manage. The food came — warm, comforting, full of flavour. And for the first time in a long time, eating felt like living.

After the meal, she came back to check in. Not rushed. Not distant. Just present.

And when I left, she said goodbye like she meant it. Like I wasn’t just another body passing through. Like I mattered.

I stepped outside and cried. Not because I was in pain. But because kindness like that… it sneaks up on you. Especially when you’re used to being looked through.

So here I am, writing this with a quiet heart and tear-streaked cheeks.

If you ever find yourself near The Real Greek, go in. Sit down. Ask for Hannah, if you can. You’ll find food that fills your stomach. But more importantly — if you're lucky — you'll be reminded that there is still goodness in the world.

And for someone like me… that...

3.5 but rounded down!

Plumped for an early evening table booking, so weren't competing for "kitchen time" with many other diners; was hoping for the best TRG could offer as a result but was left feeling underwhelmed.

The kids meal wolfed by my youngest was spot on - chips were perfect, chicken succulent and plenty of flat-bread.

The meze was very much a mixed bag, ranging from a lovely spinach tiropitakia - an excellent filo pastry parcel packed with tasty filling - to a frankly horrendous chicken monastiraki, which had clearly been made with budget ingredients that the chefs had done their level best to save. I don't know who Tonia is (I assume there's a story behind her name on the menu) but I'm afraid Tonia's Prawns were almost devoid of flavour and the pourgouri rather overcooked.

The main course was rescued by the chicken souvlaki and falafel wraps, although the latter could have benefitted from a bit more tahini, as they were perfectly cooked and full of flavour. The lamb skewer, while also flavourful, was rather tough - the meat seemed to be of decent quality so had just been overcooked. The vegan souvlaki meatballs were very dry.

Drinks-wise we thought we'd play it safe with bottled beer and a glass or two of Mavrodaphne. Slightly concerned that neither of the waiting staff that we ordered from knew what Mavrodaphne was (one had to have it pointed out on the menu).

The overall of experience was positive in that the the restaurant itself was pleasant, the service attentive (at first, until more customers came in) but lacking menu knowledge, but let down by a combination of quality of ingredients and overcooking of some menu items. I'm afraid we didn't feel like we got...
