Our Tuesday visit - the initial waiter who took our order seemed disinterested, lacking the enthusiasm that one would expect from a service professional. We understand that everyone can have an off day, so we overlooked this initial interaction. However, the situation quickly deteriorated when we had to wait a staggering 40 minutes for our starters. It was disheartening to observe that tables which arrived long after us were being served their orders promptly. Our dedicated waiter, Kiah, seemed visibly concerned and repeatedly checked with the kitchen staff to ascertain the delay. Unfortunately, the kitchen staff appeared indifferent, merely shrugging their shoulders, while other tables continued to receive their meals. Throughout this ordeal, Kiah displayed exceptional professionalism and continuously checked on us, demonstrating that she was genuinely concerned about our experience. In contrast, other staff members seemed oblivious to the situation, making us feel uncomfortable and isolated.
The extended wait time made us seriously consider leaving the restaurant. After all, who wants to wait for 40 minutes while watching everyone else enjoy their evening? It is crucial to acknowledge Kiah's outstanding service and recognize her as a true embodiment of exemplary customer service. Had it not been for her efforts, my already challenging week would have been further exacerbated, as the purpose of our visit was to momentarily escape our troubles and find solace in a pleasant dining experience.
It is essential to remember that customers come to your establishment for various reasons, be it to celebrate a special occasion, indulge in a well-deserved treat, or simply seek respite from their everyday lives. Therefore, treating every guest with utmost care and attentiveness is paramount. Failing to do so may result in subpar service, similar to what one might expect from less reputable establishments. Your restaurant has built a reputation for quality and value, and I implore you to maintain those standards.
I must emphasize that if it weren't for Kiah's exceptional service, I would have given a one-star rating across all categories. Her dedication and genuine concern for our experience saved the evening from being an utter disappointment.
I hope you take this complaint seriously and take necessary measures to rectify the issues we encountered. I trust that you will recognize the importance of providing consistent, exceptional service to all...
Read moreWe visited Zizzi at Gloucester Quays to celebrate our first wedding anniversary and had hoped for a positive experience. The restaurant was around 40% occupied at the time of our visit, and things started well – our drinks order was taken promptly and arrived quickly along with some pasta crisps. However, the experience quickly declined.
We were seated close to the kitchen, which gave us a clear view of service. One portion of garlic bread intended for our table was mistakenly delivered to another. We observed diners at that table touching the starter before advising the waitress it wasn’t theirs. Instead of discarding the dish, it was returned to the kitchen side while a second was prepared. Both portions were then brought to our table – it was evidently deemed acceptable to serve food that had already been placed in front of other diners.
Both servings of Mozzarella Garlic Bread were overcooked. The bases were tough with an unpleasantly dry texture, and the tops were speckled with blackened spots. The cheese lacked the usual smooth and velvety consistency typical of Zizzi and instead had a dried-out appearance and texture that didn’t deliver on flavour or quality.
The Calzone, by contrast, was delicious, However, the Sticky Pig pizza was again overcooked. There were numerous blackened edges and a hardened crust that lacked the usual lightness and chew. The base was overly crisp and burnt in areas, which resulted in a bitter aftertaste that made the pizza difficult to enjoy. The cheese had dried out, becoming rubbery rather than creamy and melted.
At no point during the meal were we approached for a checkback, and throughout the visit there appeared to be signs of dissatisfaction and visible disagreements between the waiting staff and the kitchen team. Overall, the experience was not great and certainly didn’t feel special, which was especially disappointing given...
Read moreZizzi at Gloucester Docks was a delightful revisit for me after about four years, and it did not disappoint. This time, I savored a large pizza topped with wagyu beef, which was a true culinary delight. The richness of the beef paired beautifully with the perfectly baked crust and fresh toppings, making each bite a treat.
The ambiance of Zizzi remains as inviting as I remembered, with its modern decor and a vibe that feels both relaxed and upscale—ideal for a casual dinner or a celebratory meal. The clever use of lighting and stylish furnishings creates a warm atmosphere that encourages you to linger a little longer.
During my visit, I was served by a gentleman who exemplified excellent service. His polite and attentive nature made the experience even more enjoyable. Although he spoke softly, his kindness and professionalism were evident in every interaction. It was heartening to see that, despite the staff changes over the years, the level of professionalism and care had remained consistently high.
The menu also seemed to have evolved, with some intriguing new offerings alongside the classic favorites. I noticed a few unique appetizers that caught my eye, and I couldn't resist trying a dessert that was simply divine—a rich ice-cream cheesecake.
Also the pizzeria was not busy, almost quite for the evening. Service was swift, prompt and attentive.
Overall, my second visit to Zizzi was a wonderful experience that reminded me why I enjoyed it so much the first time. With delicious food, a welcoming atmosphere, and attentive service, it's a gem in Gloucester Docks that I will certainly return to again. Highly recommended for anyone looking for a great pizza and a pleasant...
