Sukhothai Thai Restaurant — Restaurant in Gravesham

Sukothai is normally a favourite restaurant of mine to visit in Gravesend, I often visit with my family. The food is normally great, and the service is too. However, I unfortunately can’t say the same for this experience…

I ordered a Pad Thai with rice. After receiving my food, I spotted a strand of hair in my Pad Thai. I immediately alerted a waitress and showed her the hair. The waitress apologised and said that they will make me a new one. Shortly afterwards, another waitress appeared and asked me what the hair looked like, to which I said it was a brown/dark coloured, straight strand of hair. She then picked out some bean sprouts from the plate of remaining Pad Thai and said that what I thought was hair could have been the stringy end of the bean sprout!! I informed her that it definitely was not this and was indeed HAIR!! She then took the plate of remaining Pad Thai and said they will make a new one and give me half a bowl of coconut rice (as I had already used some).

The main waitress then returned to my table to again deny that there was hair in my food, she said she had spoken to the chef who insisted that there was no hair and that what I had seen was the stringy end of a bean sprout. She again insisted that it was not hair. I again told the waitress that it was indeed HAIR!! …. Wow!! I think I know the difference between a cooked and soggy end of a bean sprout and a single STRAND OF HAIR!!!

My food arrived but at this point my experience at the restaurant was ruined and I was ready to leave. I was very displeased and annoyed with the waitress’ attitude, her denial, and the way the situation was handled. They didn’t even apologise for the whole experience but instead chose to outright deny and minimise what I, a customer, had blatantly seen!! Very poor...

NOT RECOMMENDED!! Very, very poor service, kept getting the order wrong (for 6 of us), so much so, that one of our number left after waiting nearly an hour just to get served (20 mins after most of us got some of our order!) Appalling. - Then to compound things,No attempt at an apology or recompense from waitress or Management, not even an offer of a free drink, dessert or discount. They seemed more intent on dealing with their takeaway orders & service than attend to our party. Although food was tasty enough (what little arrived) we ended up with main meals, no noodles or rice & vice versa. We ended up deciding ourselves what we were going to pay for, what was eaten, minus the missing or incorrect servings, paid approx. 60% of bill, & left, never to return!! Shocking. NOT...

I used to come to this restaurant but I will never go back to this now. The service was appalling. They were rushing us through the meal in order to make us go home early. They were sweeping next to us while we were eating!!!! This is so rude, disrespectful and not hygienic at all!!! I have never felt so embarrassed by the service before. The table was far at the back, not in the main restaurant area despite all the space available. You normally ask a client if he/ she is happy with the table, but not here. Surely, the clients are not considered very important. The food was average but definitely not as good as I remember. The quality of the service and the food had decreased so much that I don't understand how they are still running the restaurant. I will never return to...
