I will start by saying i have come to this coffee shop since it first opened and usually go in once a week sometimes as much as three times in the summer when i walk my dog. I frequent here a lot because they allow dogs in which is great! The staff are usually great and know me by face and always come and say hello to my dog by name. So this is not aimed at them usually I'm happy with my visits.
Unfortunately this visit was very disappointing today. It was made far worse by the response i got from a staff member.
I ordered a coffee as usual and decided i wanted some food. I looked at the range of pasty's they had on offer and choose the Roast chicken dinner. Its in the price range of £6.95 can't remember exactly. It stated the filling to be that of a roast dinner, chicken, potatoes, gravy and some vegetables. When it came to the table i cut it straight in half. It was a very bland beige colour through out. I took a bite out of it and the filling could be described as a thick paste. I took my knife and moved the filling around and it was like it through out. There was lumps of chicken separated by this paste through out and not much else. It seems as if all the gravy potato and vegetables where put through a food processor and the chicken was added to it at the end. My expectations where to have chunky bits for potato and vegetables with some signs of gravy. Not a pale paste through out. I paid good money for it so i continued eating. The filling was heavy with no real texture. The flavour was the same through out, which can be only described as uneventful and rather bland when compared to the description. Its almost as if its just packed with flavourings rather than filling. Usually I wouldn't say anything and just not order again but I come here frequently and wanted to give some feed back. I didn't want my money back and I would never ask for it or accept it as it can sometimes put into question the reason for the feedback or complaint. I took the tray with food on to the counter and gave it to one of the girls at the end and said thanks but i didn't really enjoy the food. I explained as above. She apologised, i said it wasn't a problem but I just wanted to let her know and pass it on. Then someone called Jess who I believe who was the supervisor, jumped in with no introduction and asked what the issue was. I explained again and she then smiled at me and said "well your the only one who doesn't like them". I had no response to her. I literally just smiled and walked out. I guess i should have been a good customer and shut my mouth and ate my pasty. Thank you for making me feel like a valued customer. I guess feed back is over rated these days. Thanks to all the staff who usually are polite and say hello to Dexter when we come in. It's a shame it takes one rude person with little thought on what is taking place to change your view on a place. I can say I wont be back anytime soon if at all. There are plenty places to get coffee from in the bay that are far more polite and value...
Read moreI have been to this place five times. That's not to say that I've been in five times however.
They do great milkshakes, I'll give them that.
However, my major issue is with their opening hours. I have called in on week days to find they are closing at 5pm (only for it to be advertised at 6pm) and only TONIGHT (Wednesday the 14th September) I made a special journey there due to the weather for 4pm to find, YET AGAIN, they have closed for no reason.
I wasn't the only one. There were a group of cyclists all confused about the closure and someone vigorously attempting the door.
I wanted to give you five stars, I really did. But you ran out of pancakes 4 TIMES!!! ORDER MORE PANCAKES and open your shop when you say you will.
Never going again sadly, neither will many other people by the looks of it from tonight.
You had a good location and good drinks, but you've ruined it with shoddy service and no forewarning of closure on a given evening.
Not to mention the hygiene issue. On one occasion I watched a woman be refused a milkshake for her son and I quote "We don't make milkshakes during the week" at no point is this written on the menus enticing you in nor stipulated anywhere else!!!
I was later informed by the same woman who walked past me on the way out that they had dropped a selection of cakes on the floor, picked them up and put them back on the stands! When this customer questioned the health aspect of it, she was put in her place.
I won't be...
Read morePrior to Covid we ate and drank at Coffi Co regularly, with it being one of our favourite places in Cardiff Bay. Yesterday we ventured to the Bay for the first time since lockdown. We stopped at Coffi Co for a speciality coffee (Hazelnut Bueno latte and a Curly Wurly Latte). The new app ordering service worked well, and the coffees were delivered very quickly. Unfortunately, we were disappointed with the coffees and feel that the introduction of bar serving alcohol has lost the family friendly, cosy, warm feel that the coffee shop once offered. Both Lattes were mediocre at best with nothing being special about them at all. Previously the coffees felt like a treat, yesterday they felt like a standard latte that could have been purchased from any coffee establishment. We understand that places have had to adapt to survive this year; however, we both felt that the changes at Coffi Co have been for the worst; potentially pushing families away and jeopardising the quality of their coffee, in favour of pursuing alcohol sales. The introduction of a security guard at the door certainly reflects the changed nature of the business and distracted from the previously pleasant, relaxed atmosphere...
