I need to review based on my experience. We booked weeks in advance for my partner's mother's birthday who loves fish, and we were told before we were about to order that they were out of the two fish dishes, cod and halibut. It was only 19.30 on a Wednesday and we had already ordered wine and had been looking at the menu for some time.

We ordered other things, some of which were nicer than others (hispi cabbage really nice, good potatoes, nice anchovies) but the tomato bread was too vinegary and without the fish dishes we were left with a lot of carbs and just a bit unsatisfied.

The tortilla was quite nice, but was all egg and no potato, certainly didn't resemble a Basque tortilla (I read in another review that the place is Basque Inspired). As I look back, I realise the menu wasn't very inventive, and if basque inspired, the tomato toast was not right and the tortilla was nothing like a basque tortilla. There were also a lot of dishes that were bread heavy (bread with smoked mussels, bread with tomato, bread with garlic and herb butter).

However, I need to say that our server brought a small piece of the halibut over to us that they didn't want to sell (I imagine as it was too small) which was a nice thought, and it was tasty.

The service was really good (apart from not being told at the start the two fish dishes were out, this is why I've dropped a star, and I've seen this occur in another couple of reviews too so it's clearly a pattern) and the house wine was really delicious. I've also seen in another review that all the fish was sold out early, so again this is feedback that should be taken on board.

I really wanted to have a better experience, but it didn't quite pass muster. I feel like for a new restaurant of this type, you need to be delivering as there is lots of competition - as I write this it only has 4.4 stars which is low for a new place. There is the potential here but management need to resolve the issues, until then I won't...

High quality menu with a delicious mix of small plates and some larger dishes. There were small plate choices like plump oysters with pineapple and habanero hotsauce, smoky and rich jamon croquetas, a beautifully charred smoked mussel butter flatbread, a soft chorizo on crunchy toast in a pool of delicious sauce (no idea how it stayed crunchy, but...) and grilled hispi cabbage with layers of some sort of creamy sauce alternating with a mildly spicy sauce - there were another handful of choices on the ever-changing menu that sounded equally delicious. We finished up with the "main" sized portion of grilled cod, served with roasted cavolo nero (or as my wife calls it, "trust fund kale") and beans in what reminded me of a romesco style sauce, along with a portion of crunchy fingerling potatoes in something like a herby aioli. This was more than enough food for two, and frankly, the portion of potatoes was easily big enough for three to split.

The meal had a fantastic range of flavours and textures, and the portions were the perfect size for the richer dishes not to make you feel too overindulgent. The restaurant has a very reasonable lunch deal with many of the main menu favourites, so well...

The Corner Shop is located on Old Dumbarton Rd, in the original spot where the Grain and Grind cafe used to be. The space feels rather cramped, particularly with a large candle and water jar taking up the space. The wine list is extensive, but the food menu offers only a limited selection. It's an interesting idea to serve sirloin topped with tximitxurri, but the steak was quite chewy. The pricing was also somewhat confusing---the sirloin was advertised at £32 on their instagram, but listed as £54 on the in-house menu. This discrepancy also happens to other dishes as well, with the tempura scallops increased from £11 to £13.5, and the whole dover sole with chicken rising from £37 to £45. The listing price for those mains is definitely overpriced. The tempura scallop had a complex, layered flavor, which was impressive. The oyster was fresh, and the albondiga was well-seasoned. Overall, it's a nice place...

This place just KEEPS. GETTING. BETTER. The attention to detail in every aspect is clear from the moment you walk in. Spanish inspired small plates and an affordable wine list, which allows you to explore a range of by glass options, without feeling like you’ve over spent. Their food menu offers a perfect level of indulgence. One set alongside fresh, punchy flavours that don’t leave you feeling like you’ve over done it. The monkfish tail was an absolute 10/10. FoH staff were super attentive, but not overbearing. It’s great to see a team with such passion and enthusiasm, that clearly know their menu and are keen to offer advice. It’s the perfect summer venue and just what the west end was missing. Their outdoor seating is the ideal al fresco spot… but if you are popping down for a glass in the sun, don’t forget to check out their gorgeous interior.
