This place was suggested to us from our hotel and unfortunately the first time we tried to go was fully booked. This is why I highly recommend to plan this in advance. The food and the atmosphere worth the reservation compared to the other restaurants of the area. They serve fresh fish and good wine. The prices were ok compared to the portions. They have a specials menu and the regular items. We mostly tried the specials as you will see in the photos. We shared a pumpkin soup and a salad with pumpkin, fig and burrata. For our taste the soup needed a bit more flavour, which was easily fixed with some salt and pepper. We all got fish dishes which all of them were quite tasty. The dishes come as “pre fixed” so for example when we asked for smashed potatoes they couldn’t add them in the dish. We offered to pay of course but they only served French fries as a side dish which was ruining a bit the healthy side of all the dishes we got. The only real «complaint» was that the pasta with fish was a bit extra spicy. I could handle it but I believe most people couldn’t. The staff members were very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend you to visit this place.

We had dinner reservations so we were seated immediately. I think reservations are a must here - we were unable to reschedule ours to a later time because they were fully booked. We had their oysters and Cullen skin to start and enjoyed them both. We tried the hake from their normal menu and salmon from the specials board. Both entrees with delicious and a good portion! For dessert, we tried the rhubarb and brown butter custard tart and steamed pudding. Both desserts were delicious. I was a little bummed that the rhubarb wasn't incorporated into the tart - it was just served on the plate. The steamed pudding was great but my only criticism is the inconsistency of the sizes. We had two orders of the steamed pudding at our table and they were incredibly different in size - one portion was significantly smaller than the other and the same price (obviously). Overall, the food at Crannog is excellent and definitely recommend coming here if you are looking for a seafood meal.

An absolutely delicious dining experience. This beautiful restaurant is set back down the street and we happened upon it by chance. It’s cozy inside the back windows look out to beautiful greenery. We were sat near the brick fireplace and the bar, views all around! The seafood was excellent. We enjoyed the seared salmon and the seafood pasta. The salmon was paired with a variety of seasonal veg. The seafood pasta was packed with seafood! It could easily be shared between two people. My favourite part of the seafood pasta was that it went beyond seafood and included fresh veggies like tomatoes and zucchini. Our server was helpful as well when picking wine and we appreciated her guidance. We lucked out to get a table as we didn’t have a reservation. I’d recommend making one as we watched many after us who were turned away due to the popularity and busyness of this establishment.

I’d never personally go back. Don’t think the 5 people with me would either? You can tell the quality of a place by how well it handles its problems. Mistakes happen we get that. A better response would be reasonable to expected here.

Only one meal was poor but the handling of it was worse. We never commented at breakfast the next day but another couple with us raised the issue and said that they felt that we were an inconvenience to the restaurant.

On the plus side. The menu was amazing. The building is stunning.

In terms of food … we all had starters. In terms of mains three people went for the skate special. Two were ok. One had significantly more garlic and oil and was … swimming in it so to speak. The person tried not to make a fuss and addressed it away from the table, away from other customers and in private at the serving area. In the customers view the meal wasn’t edible.

When returning from the toilet she heard one member of staff say to the others … shush … she’s here??! The next thing that felt different was them asking us if we’d like coffees before we’d ordered desserts as they were turning the coffee machine off?

The person who left their meal ordered a dessert. The right thing to do for the restaurant would have been to give this dessert free? They never offered. They did offer a replacement meal but we’d all eaten then and no one would have selected that option. They still added over £30 to the bill for service? It needed a bit more sophistication and attention. The person who served us was not focused on creating a memorable dining experience for us.

The bill was £338 after the meal was removed, (for 6), so expensive for FW High St. If they’d prefer to close earlier then that’s do’able. They took a booking for 8:30? It’s all in their control.

UPDATE POST THE RESPONSE BELOW. The main reason we wouldn’t go back is not about the food. I’ve said above dishes do go wrong, we get that. It’s how you choose to respond.

The restaurant appears to still accept zero responsibility for a poorly delivered dish? The lack of realistic alternatives offered also? Would you as one in a party of 6 expect everyone else to sit and wait whilst you ate the replacement alone? Come on?? The words … maybe we should put the garlic butter sauce on the side? How rude? They’ve completely assumed the customer picked the wrong dish and doesn’t know what it is? There were 3 of the same dish. We compared them. This dish was significantly different. I suspect what happened is that the chef cooked them all together in one pan and simply emptied the contents of the pan in to the last one. Swimming in it vs. fish in garlic butter are two completely...

First time at this restaurant, even though we have stayed at Fort William many times - certainly won't be the last... what a fantastic meal we had. From the service of the friendly staff, to the food and drink - we couldn't fault anything and this will definately be on our go to list for our future visits..... We started with the Cullen Skink (best one we have ever tasted - so packed with flavour and every spoonful was packed with fish and potato) - as you'd expect it was filling (although the bowl looked quite small - well perfect starter size compared to many we have been given, this was deceiving as was jam packed - a right hearty bowl of chowder right enough). Next we had a 8oz Ribeye and the Hake - Both delicious again - the steak came perfectly cooked - was so juicy and tender! Accompanied by 4 large homemade onion rings, 2 grilled tomatoes, homemade chips (to die for), mushrooms and a wee pot of Peppercorn Sauce - sauce wasn't even used as steak was so tasty and juicy.... I had to concentrate on just eating the steak because I was quite full after the Cullen Skink but of the other items I dud eat they were all tasty!! The Hake was completely devoured - every last piece, including the lentils etc that accompanied it!! Needless yo say after this, we couldn't possibly manage a dessert so settled for more wine instead but we have no doubt any dessert would have been amazing too. We will certainly be back that's for sure!! Would highly recommend to anyone!! Staff and atmosphere from entrance to departure were friendly...
