The Dark Horse is a bit of a dark horse, it opened with a spectacular flourish during lockdown and seemed to be doing really well, there was always a queue outside. On entering it was really slickly designed and fitted instantly in to the Mumbles vibe, the food was fantastic, the service was always good, it was a 5 star establishment right from the word go. We went in the other day just for desserts, we’d already eaten mains somewhere else, it was empty! Not sure whether the new ownership had anything to do with it, no reason why it should. It was fine, the food was tasty, it’s still clean and just the same interior, but it felt…different somehow. Our waiter initially impressed but after the 3rd time of him cheerily checking ‘Everything alright guys?’ He began to grate a bit. He did it 2 more times after that, crazy. I can barely cope with 1 check but realise it’s restaurant etiquette, 5 times and we might judge them unfairly and not go back again, which is a bit stupid, we’ll probably just avoid him. So it still gets 4 stars for being in the right place and providing the right stuff, I just hope it doesn’t all go wrong and they slide away, it’s a nice place to...

Made a takeaway order and, living only 2 minutes drive away, the forecasted delivery time was 45mins-1hour. After 1.5 hours I called up to see where it was, and they confirmed they hadn’t even started cooking yet…. It arrived around 1 hour 50 mins after being ordered…
Bad service aside, I’m writing this review because of how poor the food was. I ordered a range of dishes, none of them were cooked well with the exception of the popadoms (consolation gift) and the plain basmati rice.
The main curries (Korma, Butter Chicken, biryani) were tasteless and greasy. The starters (wings & chicken tikka) were equally plan with the added bonus of the wings having a nice soggy batter (added texture).
Overall, cost me a lot (not a cheap place) and most of it went in the bin. Advise visitors or locals alike against this place as its aesthetic but no substance (go...
