I visited Dragon Palace on Thursday 25 July 2019 at 7.30pm, a weekday during the school holidays. I was with one other person. I have probably been to this restaurant around eight to ten times over the last few years.
There is a small car park on site, which has a few spaces available, which is right behind the restaurant, or you can park in the road outside.
The restaurant comprises of one reasonably sized main dining area with plenty of tables, a small bar and toilets. This is an "all you can eat" Chinese restaurant - not one where the food is left out for you to help yourself, but where you select what you want, it's prepared for you and brought to your table - you can choose from an extensive menu and order more when you're ready.
I didn't pre-book on this occasion, it wasn't massively busy but it had been a very hot day which might put a lot of people off a big meal.
As soon as I arrived I was shown straight to a table. The team were friendly and welcoming, as always, and I had no issues - we got everything we expected in good time and enjoyed the experience.
The food always arrived hot, was well presented and tasted good. There was a really good selection of food and I found something that appealed to me easily. I've tried out a couple of other similar "all you can eat"/buffet Chinese restaurants over the last couple of months, much further afield, but having sampled others I believe this is the best one locally.
The toilets were clean and tidy as usual.
These style restaurants aren't necessarily cheap and you have to watch the drinks, which can really add to the bill. I paid around £30 for my meal including a couple of large soft drinks, which isn't unreasonable.
Overall I really enjoyed my visit and will definitely come and...
Read moreStopped here on a whim, and mostly because of the massive sign promoting the food to be MSG free.
The all-you-can-eat is really quite something.
For starters, we had deep fried chilli & garlic salt squid, spare ribs with Peking sauce, prawn toast and satay chicken.
This was for 3 people, and there was enough food to feed Ethiopia for about 6 months- just in the starter alone.
The food was utterly delicious.
It was followed up with crispy duck served with pancakes, cucumber, spring onion, hoi sin sauce, etc... much more manageable between 3 people.
Mains were also very good- sweet and sour chicken HK style, lemon chicken, mixed veg and special fried rice. The portions were a lot more friendly by this point- we appreciate the 'all you can eat' aspect, but when there is a charge for leaving food, it does worry you a little bit.
Service was excellent, drinks quite expensive but not massively necessary as the food wasn't overly salty. The lack of MSG means you really can eat more than you think, and you are left not feeling like a Goodyear blimp afterwards.
Definitely worth a re-visit- very fond of the English interpretation of Chinese food, and this is easily one of the better ones out there. Top 10,...
Read moreFantastic buffet cooked fresh. A bit more expensive then the chain buffets but well worth it as long as you are a big eater and like your food fresh. This is the go to place for me and the wife. £30 each at the weekend plus 10% as stated discretion payment with coke at £4 a pint it becomes a £80 night. We went New Year’s Eve at midweek £27 and had pints of Squash at £1.50 and they didn’t charge the 10% so came in £60. Well worth it as we are big eaters and they really keep what you want coming. Made the mistake of taking my skinny sister and her daughter to the buffet once for my mums birthday. Watching them eat about 3 prawns between them hurt! Hindsight we should have just done the menu, would have worked out allot cheaper. Unfortunately it’s down to the whole table in or out. I would say just do the math what your table would order before just committing to the buffet as it could be...
