Was attracted by the seafood linguine on the menu board outside. My husband ordered the mussels and chips with chorizo and I ordered the seafood linguine that I had seen in the board. When our food arrived, my husband began shelling his mussels only to find there wasn’t any chorizo in with the mussels. I asked the waitress and she said the chorizo should be in with the mussels. We checked again to see if it was in the sauce underneath but it definitely wasn’t there. We called the waitress again and she said she would check to see if they had remembered to put it in. A few minutes later a young gentleman came over and said sorry the dish doesn’t come with chorizo it’s a misprint on the menu and you should have been told that when you ordered. I said but we weren’t in fact the girl said it should have been in the sauce, the gentleman continued saying it was a misprint and there was nothing he could do! I said to him my husband might have ordered a different dish if he had know that but the young gentleman just shrugged it off! Then my food arrived and to my surprise my food was yellow! I took a mouthful and it tasted like curry, I was shocked and thought I had made a mistake in what I had ordered. The young man passed me again and I asked if the linguine was supposed to be curry flavoured like this, I told him it’s now how linguine is usually served. To this he replied yes that’s how we serve ours. At first I felt a little silly that I hadn’t read the menu properly and checked to see what kind of sauce was used. I tried to eat it but there was so much turmeric in it I could actually feel the grittiness of the powder! I apologised to my husband and said I’m sorry I can’t eat any more of this it’s beginning to make me feel sick. We paid for the meal and went downstairs to leave. As we did I double checked the menu and I wasn’t mistaken, the linguine said the sauce was made with cream garlic & white wine!! I went back inside and asked to see the table menu again, this also said the sauce was made with cream, garlic and white wine! I complained to the manager about this. The manager also tried to tell me at first that it was the garlic that had turned the cream yellow, then he said the chef may have put some turmeric in and I should have said, I told him I did but according to his main waiter you always served seafood linguine curry flavoured. The manager became irate and was abrupt and said fine, your obviously not happy and I can’t be bothered with this so just give her her money back I’ve had enough! We didn’t get our full money back only given the money for my meal. The staff were rude and lied about every error they made rather than say sorry and replace with correct dish! Which would have saved all of this debacle!!! Maybe your Manager and Main Young Male server might learn from this for...
Read moreWe visited Fishy Fishy in Fort William for lunch (three of us, just before 3pm). There were still several tables occupied by other customers, so it didn’t appear that the restaurant was on a break.
When I asked a male server (short hair, short stature, beard — I’ll refer to him here as “the waiter”), whether they were still serving food and if we could have a table for three, he took us to a dark corner at the back. I politely asked if we could have a brighter table, perhaps by the window, or at least somewhere with better lighting. He simply said “No, that table won’t fit three” and walked away, without mentioning other available tables that would have been fine. I let it go, but it was disappointing.
Later, after placing our order, I noticed a four-person table by the window became free and asked if we could move there. The waiter said “No, the orders are already tied to this table in the system.” As someone who has run my own restaurant, I know for a fact that moving customers to another table is far simpler than changing an order in the kitchen. Again, no flexibility at all, so we stayed where we were — in the dark corner.
When the food arrived, it was too dim for me to film or take photos for my food vlog, which was part of the reason we came. That opportunity was lost.
Partway through eating, the waiter came by to ask if we had finished — even though we were clearly still chewing. It felt like he was rushing us to leave. To be fair, one female staff member was very pleasant and attentive, but unfortunately she was the exception.
When it came to paying, we agreed to split the bill between card and cash. The waiter flatly refused, saying it must be one or the other. I commented that it seemed impossible to request even the smallest service accommodation here, and that there was no service mindset at all. In the end, I paid the full bill by card. Ironically, the waiter even pointed out where to press if I wanted to leave a tip.
My original plan was to tip 15% in cash (since no service charge was added), but after this service I chose not to. We left without even a “thank you” or “goodbye” from the waiter, who was folding napkins nearby.
To summarise: the food was ordinary, but the service was appalling. If you value courtesy, this isn’t the place for you. If you don’t care about manners and appreciate rudeness, then by all means, Fishy Fishy will suit...
Read moreThis place could have been good but unfortunately we encountered a few too many cons for me to give 5 stars.
1st the food. For our order, we got 3 fish and chips ordered - 1 haddock, 1 hake, and 1 grilled cod with tomato sauce. My wife ordered an appetizer chorizo and scallops.
The hake was amazing, super soft and scrumptious. Wished it would have been a bigger piece of fish. Unfortunately, the haddock was soggy and the batter quickly disintegrated. Further, the fish itself was tougher than expected (other subsequent places that served haddock showed that the fish could be more tender). Overall, though it was decent.
I didn't have a chance to taste the cod but it looked fine. The chorizo + scallops was not a pleasant dish. The chorizo was super tough and the scallops did not taste very fresh.
Next, service-wise, they messed our order up in a few places - when I asked for a salad in "salad or chips" we got chips instead. Also, while we did not specifically point out that we wanted the appetizer portion for the chorizo & scallops (there was also a main entree portion), it should have been clear we were looking for the appetizer portion, given we were clearly asking for advice between that or the crab crostini. At the very least they could have clarified. Unfortunately, the 9.95 dish ended up being the most expensive 24.95 dish of all but the least tasty. The server was either new or avoiding our table as it took a bit to get her attention.
The view was overall good and our experience was not too bad, so this ultimately balances...
