Walk down the little alley way that is lined with fresh produce and flowers on Market Street and you will find Forgan’s, one of favourite restaurants to visit in St. Andrews. This chic, sky lit restaurant is situated next to Mitchell’s, the sister restaurant. They offer Scottish produce food in a warm and inviting environment served by personable staff. The food is delish and the prices £££ are reasonable. I personally love the fish and chips. What I didn’t know is Forgan’s is housed in a former cleek factory and some of the best golf clubs in the world were manufactured right on this site. Forgan’s is reputed to be the oldest golf club factory dating back to the 1860’s. One of the best liked people in town, Robert Forgan, a successful proprietor owned this restaurant and therefore, the restaurant and bar is named in his honour. I didn’t know that during the refurbishment a set of old, rare golf clubs were unearthed by a construction worker whilst he was drilling through the floor. To think you can eat and enjoy top-quality, Scottish food in a cozy atmosphere in one of the oldest golf club factories in St. Andrew’s makes this restaurant one of my top choices to visit. They offer beer, mixed drinks, cocktails and have entertainment. The bathrooms are located upstairs. I share this because in the 🚾 WC, each stall is lined with old newspapers and book pages. Make sure to check them out. To summarize, Forgan’s has great, tasty, top-quality food with reasonable prices that is served by kind staff in a warm, cozy atmosphere that once was an old golf club factory makes this place one of my TOP 🔝 restaurants to visit in St. Andrew’s. This restaurant deserves five (5) stars ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️.

Forgan's, St Andrews - September 2024 We recently had the pleasure of visiting the charming town of St Andrews, Scotland, while visiting our son, Kiro, studying philosophy at the university there. The journey from home, London, is quite long, but it is well worth it when you arrive in this beautiful, historic town with enchanting streets. On Sunday, 22nd September 2024, after a day of exploring, we stopped for a late lunch at around 4pm and came across Forgan’s. The restaurant is beautifully decorated with a stylish, urban-industrial feel, immediately catching our eye. The staff was amicable and welcoming, which added to the pleasant atmosphere. The food was decent, though pricey for what we ordered—fish, chips, and burgers. At £160 for four people, we did feel it was pretty overpriced for what we received, especially considering the relatively simple dishes. One minor point: while Forgan aims for an upmarket vibe, the music was surprisingly loud, slightly detracting from the relaxed dining experience. St Andrews is a beautiful town; we’ll be back to explore more. Forgan’s is a lovely spot with excellent service and a stylish interior, but the price was steep for the offering. Thank you for the experience!

My wife had previously enjoyed a good meal here, and Forgan's was recommended by several friends. Unfortunately our experience was terrible. We came late afternoon when it appeared to be quiet, yet the service was very slow and it was more than an hour before our food arrived. The waiting staff should have advised us there would be a long delay. I chose the pear and blue cheese salad which was so awful I sent it back; I'm not sure I have ever done that before. The dish comprised mainly of bland, limp leaves coated in a completely tastless dressing - so much so I thought it was water. A few miserly crumbs of (tasty) cheese and slices of pear rounded it off; but no croutons as advertised. My daughter's herb-crusted salmon was satisfactory but some slices of my wife's steak sandwich were so gristly they were fit only for the dog. The staff did, however, handle things well and a gammon steak was quickly produced as a replacement. It was a great improvement on the salad, and served with delicious onion rings and a duck egg, but it was spoilt by being far too salty. The many positive reviews suggest this was an unusal blip for Forgan's but with so many other places to eat nearby, I wouldn't return.

Before I begin this. I would like to thank the manager who at the end if the dinner took our desserts off the bill and gave us a 30% discount. Thats why service gets 2 stars, not 1. My group of friends had booked with Forgans to celebrate our friend visiting home from New Zealand for the festive season. This was the only time most of us would see her while she was back.

TLDR: There for 3 hours only had main & dessert, poor/slow service, off food, cold food, starters given as mains, not pram friendly.

Problems:

We had to reorder our drinks three times because of things being out of stock and waiters misunderstanding us - which as it was the beginning of the night we of course were fine with. We waited 90mins from when we first arrived to get any food to our table. Mains arrived cold, one was only the size of a starter and was missing elements from the menu. A long wait to get a dessert menu, we got coffees straight away then waited 45mins and still nothing despite people checking our table. We asked and our order had been lost. We waited over an hour in total for our desserts. when it finally arrived, the cheesecake was lumpy and sour. Three members of our party tried it and all three spat it out. My "vanilla" ice cream was lumpy, had bit of nuts and coconut in it. And other desserts were cold when they were meant to be hot. Part of these issues might've been because we were served by about 5 or 6 different people. This is what bothered us most: Our friend who booked the table told the venue we would have a pram with us for her 5 month old. We were asked (rather sharply) to move the pram as it was blocking other tables. We were told there was a place at the front of the venue to store it. We were sat right at the back. Our friend obliged once we recieved a high chair and took the pram out to be stored (people had to get up from tables to allow her through). When she got to the front she was turned around and sent back to our table. She was asked to dismantle and fold up the pram to be out of the way by us. With some struggle and help from another table we managed to find places to put the pram. We were all a bit annoyed our friend had to do all this, but the kicker is, after all that we ended up at the venue for 3 hours because of poor service and NO ONE came to sit at the tables the pram was apparently blocking, until one couple arrived when we were ready for the bill.

When we asked to speak to the general manager (not the one stated at start of review) we were told she had "stepped out" for 15 mins... Thankfully another manager spoke to us who tried her best to rectify the situation through discount.

It was so bad, it was honestly a joke by the end of the night. We left stunned the venue is always fully booked, and knowing we'd...

We visited Forgan’s St Andrews last week for a new year’s treat. We were a party of 8 adults, 2 babies and a 4 year old. We had paid a deposit of £120 to secure our booking beforehand. It took up to 15 minutes for someone to ask if we wanted a drink and on your menu it says to ask your server for cocktails that may be on your menu. I asked for a spicy margarita and was told ‘no chillies so can’t do it’ I asked for a Bloody Mary but was told you don’t have Tabasco. Two very basic ingredients for a kitchen so was a little disappointed in this. We ordered 2 alcoholic cocktails and 2 non alcoholic cocktails due to two members of the party being heavily pregnant. After waiting 40 minutes for drinks to arrive, 1 cocktail came out with two straws and 2 cocktails had one straw. The man seemed very confused and named the cocktail but didn’t specify whether this was alcoholic or not, after asking he nodded and put it down in front of me. I tried the cocktail and could taste alcohol. My two friends who both are pregnant were told that their cocktails were non alcoholic but they in fact had alcohol in them. I had to find someone to complain too. Meanwhile the last cocktail still had not arrived. We waited a significant amount of time for this mistake to be fixed. We still had not ordered our food. When our server came to take the order we were told that we couldn’t get so much of what was on the menu and the server could not actually tell us exactly what we could not order. It was a shambles. So we played it safe and a majority of us ordered a burger, one tagliatelle and one ox cheek dish plus starters. The bread was stale it was inedible. When the main meals eventually came out, a lot of the meals were cold as if they had been sitting for a long duration. My friend who is pregnant had a tagliatelle with prawns and refused to eat it as she tried a prawn and it tasted undercooked. A lot of plates were left untouched which is shocking at the prices of your restaurant. The server came over and did not ask us how are meal was, the plates were just being taken away. One of us said to the server ‘excuse me this tagliatelle is cold and the prawns are not cooked’ and he said ‘aw sorry’ and walked away with the plate? Just not good enough. A child’s dessert was ordered and this was not brought out at all. After complaining to what seemed like a manager, she did discount the meal and apologised. I feel so disheartened that this was always a place where myself and my partner would come every year for Christmas and summer holidays for good food and service. Sad to have had this experience as I do not feel as though I’d return now. Extremely disappointing. It’s a lot of money for poor service...

First time booking this place.

We booked a table hours ahead of time as we travelled from Edinburgh to St Andrews as we attended the book launch of LBC’s James O’Brian new book.

We came in 50 mins ahead of time as the event finished earlier than we thought. We got told that our reservation was at 9:30 when we got told over the phone when booking it was 9:15. We were then told there was still no table and asked us to come back. So we left and came back at 9:30 to then be seated near the middle of the restaurant. After 10 mins of being seated. We were then told that we would have to order right now as the kitchen was closing. After discussing the menu with the server about I might like and asked her for a recommendation and my partner already ordering what he wanted. I asked if I could have one more minute. She then said sure and then went over to the till. When she then passed me again I asked her, excuse me can I have order the steak, which she replied saying I order to your order through. 🤷‍♂️ She put through the same order for my partner twice so I was basically having the same as he was. I questioned this and she went to the kitchen to asked to change it.

Mean while another member of staff came up to the table and asked if it would be possible to move us as they want to clear the area for the cleidh starting at 10:30. I asked the why were we seated here if you are holding a clergy? He said it’s ok if you want to stay here is fine and walked off.

Server comes walking past and I asked what I’m I getting then? And she says that I’ve changed it to the steak.

Then another member of staff comes up to us and asks us to move tables again because a cleigh is starting in 25mins. (while we would be trying to have a nice dinner) which is basically a joke and shouldn’t be happening while people are trying to enjoy a meal out at a restaurant.

Food arrives to abit of confusion. This massive dish with this one scoop of mash potato which looked really stupid. Then we found my steak over cooked and vegetables on my parters dish was raw we had to send it back.

Then waiting and waiting, we were sitting at our able waiting for a food to arrive to enjoy our dinner out. A band setting up right behind us and about to be surrounded by dancing on a cleidh that we were NEVER told about in advance was going to happen while we were there.

While we waited our sides sat there getting cold waiting for the main dishes arriving back. Then we made the decision that we couldn’t stay here and felt that we had to leave after feeling pretty much unwelcome and uncomfortable.

Given how late it was, we have to go to a kebab shop to get any food at 10:30pm.

This place is shameful...
