Always try and come here when in Bowness as the food is very good, and the staff/owners always go that extra mile with the service. We booked in advance as you must !! and it was nice to see the same management team in place, and we settled downstairs ready to order. I started with the crispy duck salad pictured, which was very tasty !! although, I could have had more duck in it 😋 and possibly missed some spring onion but overall really nice. Wife had the Leek and Sweet Potato Soup which she said was delicious. For my main I felt like a burger and went for the Cheeseburger with Lancashire Cheese. I must say the burger was superb with a fantastic flavour reminiscent of Wagyu Beef, and was accompanied by string fries which again were hot so for me a lovely main away from my normal choices. My wife went for the Lamb Henry which was steaming hot but the veg/potato was ice cold and unfortunately we had to swap it. Pity, as it put our meal out of sync with our sons, but the management tried completely to correct the error and we all felt they achieved that objective which is a good sign of a good restaurant. Desserts my wife went for the speciality Cheesecake and I went for the Sticky Toffee Pudding with the former being very tasty and lite with a strong biscuit base but the sponge on the STP tasted bitty and the sauce a bit burnt. Overall 4 stars out of 5 which we have stretched to due to the management team who did really want to help in making it a special occasion and that's something you do not see a lot of in today's venues. Thanks ... we will be back

We visited Jacksons Bistro last night with friends to dine whilst on a short weekend break, it has to be said we had an absolutely brilliant time, the staff and management here are true experts at providing customer service and a level of positive Interaction with customers that simply eludes most places. We were made very welcome and the staff had a good knowledge of how the various dishes were prepared and also what wines would compliment our meal. The menu was varied, I found the prices a little bit on the high side on some of the items on the A La Carte menu, however the fixed price menu made up for this with a great choice of similar dishes. For instance both menus had rib eye steak, so it was all good. We had a lovely meal and great overall dining experience, I would definitely recommend this place to family and friends. A big thanks to the staff who made our evening so good. Clearly they take Pride in what they do. 10/10

It's one of the best restaurants I've eaten in! From when you first walk through the door, your experience will be of a high standard. From the friendly welcome, service, quality and presentation of the food, to the cost, you'll not be disappointed. They also have an inclusive 2 or 3-course menu, with a wide selection of choices (and their daily specials are included too). If they have the baileys and malteser cheesecake on their specials, I'd highly recommend you try it. Even my partner (who's not a cheesecake "fan") loved it. It's the only restaurant in Bowness that takes bookings and I'd highly recommend you do so, as it's always really busy. Andrew and his team have just celebrated 30 years in business, and you'll soon see why. Many people (such as me!), return, time after time! You'll not be disappointed.

Never entered door despite aiming to eat there all week. Last year on holiday in in lakes advice was to book for jacksons as so popular. We kept in mind for this year and arrived at 5.42pm, as surrounding the restaurant were boards saying opened at 5.30 - I mean everywhere!! Staff in whites and others were sat inside having beer together. So put head in door, as no one took notice of our presence at all, and asked if open and a member of staff at back somewhere said no - not open till about 6.15. That was it - no explanation. You know when you are taken aback at something coz all signs said 5.30 and no explanation was given and we stupidly did not say 'Oh, why'. But frankly we felt dismissed and like we had missed something. We were cross. Anyway gave us time to look at scores on the doors- food hygiene score app - and to our surprise you have a 2 - that is really bad! So very glad we did not eat at Jackson bistro and never will. To any manager there - your hygiene may well have improved since you got a two in the last year, but your staff were slack, and not just a little bit slack - they were rude and unprofessional. We come every year to lakes and so do our family. Damage done. If staff had said 'sorry, can't open till 6.15 because... Can we book you a table?' - anything like that - never would have checked scores on doors. Probably would have thought they were lovely. We are not hard customers. Now I walk past and feel sorry for people in your...

So after discussions over the weekend with the restaurant, with paramedics, being referred to hospital for x-rays and doctors today. This place has ignored the fact it made one of there customers extremely ill with food posioning from a seafood platter. I know it's an unfortunate mistake and you was apologetic, when we spoke but further this you still found it within yourselves to charge £80 for poor food. Everything is logged with old MacDonald spa hotel, that filled an accident report log to where ambulance was called at 00:30 rescuing myself from throwing up, collapsing and having seizures on the floor. With collapsing I banged my shoulder into the corner of a wall, lucky not broke but I have ligament damage and muscle tears which has stopped me working all this week also struggling to get my kids ready for school.

I know you guys have a great reputation but public care is definitely not your strong point, once that cash is in the till they don't want to know.

Won't be eating here again and good luck to those that do, don't eat the fish!

  • 10days later, I am still struggling with health and injuries. My job has been really affected slowing my work down and putting me in a difficult situation with my customer who would like to get there job finished*

I am looking to escalate this further as the restaurant has no intention to do anything or say anything. Very poor communication and...
