I stayed at Jacobās Ladder Inn in Falmouth last night, 5th November 2022 in an en-suite double room. I am taking the time to write this review because of how much I enjoyed my stay. It was a spontaneous booking because I had been out walking in the morning on a miserable, rainy day and the striking rail service meant I couldnāt easily get home to the East Midlands after staying the previous night in a local Guest House. I just needed to find somewhere to warm up, get a shower and relax. I was welcomed and shown to my room despite arriving almost an hour before my check in time. The room was lovely - a plush double bed, thick quilt, blankets, a warm radiator (controllable) and a large opening window. There was a āpodā style coffee maker and kettle, bottles of water, biscuits, a large TV, and an en suite loo and shower room that was a really decent size. A well written folder left on the bed contained details of the food available downstairs, local amenities, emergency contacts, how to use the coffee machine! Everything was carefully thought out and well finished - it felt like a really nice hotel room rather than a room above a pub. The pub itself had a lit wood fire, tables and comfy sofas and an outdoor seating area. There are four separate rooms in the venue with the bar accessible directly from two. The menu includes small plates and large plates as well as desserts and there was a special advertised which I thoroughly enjoyed - beef brisket lasagne with salad and garlic bread. This is evidently an establishment that is enjoyed by all ages - there were plenty of local students enjoying beers and banter. (I would point out that students living in these parts of Cornwall are not chavs or disagreeable types - but educated, interesting people) But itās not āa student venueā - several dogs and their owners came and went while I dined and drank. And people were friendly and welcoming. I greatly appreciated the friendly bar staff - Tom was so lovely to chat with when things had quietened down towards 11pm. Age also arranged for me to have a take-out breakfast snack rather than sitting in for breakfast since I had to leave early this morning. This worked well - the breakfast chef handed me a bag containing a sizeable bacon roll, bottle of freshly-squeezed orange and a bar of chocolate, which were perfect! If I had not been able to get back home today I would have stayed another night, without question. I really hope to return some time. This was a far better experience than I would have ever imagined. There are two shared bathrooms, one with a bath/shower and the other with a shower, toilet and sink. Both bathrooms were well cleaned and maintained. There is also a kitchen available for use with all of the basic facilities, a cooker, fridge, toaster etc... There is a washing machine however it costs £3 to use. The room was suitable for the price, with four beds, a sink and mirror and a small chest of drawers. Our room looked over the front of the pub with a view of Jacobs Ladder, the long set of stairs leading down to the town centre. The room was mostly tidy however there were still signs of previous visitors such as socks and bottle tops left on the floor, it could have done with a vacuum and wipe down after the last guests left. The food in the pub was very nice and reasonably priced for the quality but can easily end up costing more than the room if you were to eat multiple meals. There is no breakfast included in the price of the bed, however breakfast is available for £7. The pub seems very friendly, with live entertainment some nights until the late evening. The music can be heard from the rooms which might make it difficult to get an early night however this didn't really affect us.
Overall pleased with the two nights we spent at The Jacobs Ladder Inn, and if we are back in Falmouth we'll more than happily stay here again. It wasn't perfect but for the price you can't really...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreStayed in one of the ensuite rooms upstairs, wasnāt expecting much, but the standard of accommodation is surprisingly good. Everything in the room is to a high standard, nice deco, spotlessly clean, everything seems very new and of good quality. Nice comfy bed, spacious bathroom and our room had a sea view which was a bonus.
The welcome from the staff was very good, efficient and friendly, the pub downstairs is a really nice cozy old place. Kitchen closes at eight, which was a bit of an inconvenience, however I understand why it wouldnāt make much sense for them to stay open longer, and very easy to find places nearby that would serve food (but only until nine). Very good breakfast included as well.
Really great experience overall, would...
