First I want to start this by saying they were extremely busy tonight so with benefit of the doubt perhaps on a quieter day there wouldnât be the same issues. Nevertheless my experience tonight was sufficient to make me want to write this review.
Ordered a takeaway online (good system), earliest time slot given was an hour later. Wrote a note in the comments to ask if I could come sooner and then headed down after 30mins. Arrived in the restaurant and waited a good while before anyone acknowledged me. I said I knew I was early but just wondering if it was ready. The response was âwell what time did it say when you orderedâ and that was that!
Returned at the given time. Again a while before anyone says hello or asks if they can help. Iâm eventually sat down and asked to wait. 15mins go by and a bit of âwhatâs your nameâ backward and forward and then Iâm presented with my order.
Half way down the road I think Iâll just check itâs actually my order and no surprise itâs not my order so back I go. Some confusion ensues (although not sure why - itâs not my order and Iâve brought it back because I want my one?) eventually given my correct order. Very mild apologies. No goodbye or have a nice evening, just rude and unfriendly ultimately.
Just shy of ÂŁ60 for 2 starters, 2 rice, 3 mains and a near 90 minute wait.
Green and red curries were nice, rice was nice. Spring rolls and sweetcorn fritters were OK. Pad Krapow was not worth it - all heat and no other taste and not made with mince meat sadly.
While I had been waiting I was sat by the bar. There must have been some confusion over someoneâs soft drink in the restaurant because a Pepsi was brought back âthey have already had theirsââŚ. And this was promptly poured away! Itâs such a small thing but what a waste! Why not give it for free to the customer?
My experience could have been completely different with a few small changes: greet customers on arrival and if you canât help them straight away then tell them youâll be with them in a moment. If a customer comes in for early takeaway why not just entertain the idea and see if it can be done quicker? Or say nicely that itâs not possible and offer for the customer to sit and wait or to come back. If youâre going to be rude about customers coming early then make sure the food is ready at the time specified and if not then be hospitable and keep the customer updated. When mistakes happen at very least apologise a bit more than âoops sorry about thatâ and donât ignore customer when they say goodnight.
Sadly thatâs been the worst experience of Ambleside takeaways during our holiday.
I hope that the owners and staff may take my comments...
Read moreI honestly donât know how this place has got some good reviews as I am Thai and this was not Thai food. First off, our server was rude. We told him what we wanted and apparently it was too quick for him as he said to us âHow fast do you think I can write?â which left us feeling uncomfortable and like we were shouted at like school kids. Then the drinks came, one hardly had any whiskey in it (to which the server responded, thatâs just the recipe), the starters were below average with the chicken satay tasting dry and bland. One of our mains was incorrect, so the waitress took it back to the kitchen and when she brought us the ârightâ dish, it was the same dish, but just with more spices on it. It was meant to be drunken noodles, but instead we got a very odd Pad Thai (see photo.. nothing like what drunken noodles should look like! Can you even see the meat?). We ate our food as we were hungry and it was already late, but it was hands down the worst meal weâve ever had. When we politely told our server how our experience was, he spoke to us in a condescending matter, fake smiling and writing down our issues saying that he will report it back to the kitchen, but we knew he was just speaking bull. He gave us 10% off our bill, but it was still ÂŁ57 for a meal that tasted nothing like Thai food and an uncomfortable experience in the restaurant. We really should have got it for free. Just donât go to a Thai restaurant if you donât see Thai chefs or servers! It honestly wasnât ran by Thai owners. Never never never again. Was also the day after we got married as well, so was disappointing. Oh, also to note, the couple next to us left their mains as well as they kept getting their order wrong and they couldnât be bothered waiting for below average food to come out. We really should have done the same. I...
Read moreAh it's such a mixed bag this, in the past it's been excellent (been a regular visitor to Ambleside for over ten years) and it still has its moments, I don't like leaving negative reviews but hopefully things can get better as this place could be brilliant! It's a beautifully decorated restaurant with statues, art and even a tuk van in the premises, I'm sure no one will complain about how it looks!
It's in a fantastic location central to the town and it's always very busy so booking is advised! But the last 4 times we've been it's been sadly steadily getting worse. The last time we visited, we booked in advance but still had to wait (not a problem) but we were waiting over 25 mins upon sitting down, I actually had to ask the staff if we could have some menus. The starter was out way before the drinks (which they didn't bring one, had to ask again) and mains, when they finally arrived we left half of each as it just seemed very rushed. It's very expensive (the tofu curry and rice was just under ÂŁ20 and as you can see even there's not a lot, albeit ok tasting) Pricy for Ambleside and neither of us were very impressed tbh, We couldn't wait to leave and it will be our last visit for a good while. The staff are really working hard but you can tell straight away how understaffed the current situation is and how stressful it is for them, but being very rude and blunt doesn't help anything. We definitely weren't the only customers unimpressed with the experience and with Ambleside having no shortage of places to eat, as it is at the moment I'd suggest looking elsewhere while you're visiting the...
