I must have walked past St Mary’s numerous times over the years and barely noticed it. Today though I was drawn in by the sound of gorgeous music being played on the fabulous st Mary’s church organ. I’m far from being a churchy person or an organ music person but hearing and feeling the sound growing as I walked through the door truly moved me. Inside I found a really lovely, warm and peaceful place and whoever the chap was playing an impromptu organ gig on a Monday morning, you made my day ! Read moreLast year when visiting Ambleside we called into St. Mary's Parish Church. There was a young man playing the organ, he was practicing different pieces of music so we sat listening quietly. He asked if he could play for us " yes, certainly!" we said - he then proceeded to play " The Phantom of the Opera".....WOW!! That memory will stay with us forever - what a fantastic piece of music - and just for "us ". Absolutely brilliant!! We hope the young fella goes far following his musical career. Read moreA huge church this, and according to the 'Self-Guided Heritage Trail' sheet was designed by Sir George Gilbert Scott to hold up to 1000 people. Not an old church, completed in 1854, it has an impressive sandstone spire. There is the intriguing mural from 1944 - Rushbearing.
