Update (5 - 3 stars): Feb 2024. I have left me original review below as a lot of it is still true - the food is really tasty and a lot fresher and healthier than most other restaurants, but I feel that standards have slipped on what I am going to categorise as service (though the staff are still really friendly!). I have had two unfortunate experiences recently:
In the first experience, I ordered takeaway. The order arrived with someone else's name, address and phone number on (so my details were on someone else's order). By the time we worked out that it was in fact the correct order in the bag, it was mostly cold. There were also multiple errors in the order (rice instead of noodles, wrong sauces etc). Yesterday I visited the restaurant in person with a friend. The service was at best slow and inattentive. My food turned up (and tasted great!) and a bottled beer instead of the draught beer that I'd ordered. When my friend's didn't arrive I eventually waved a server down (which took some doing as they all hang out by the tills) who said she'd check, and then never came back. Ten minutes later I went up to the front to query again and was told the order had been 'lost' and it would be ready in 4 minutes. It arrived just over 10 minutes later. It was over an hour after my friend ordered and about 20 minutes since I'd finished eating. There were none of the usual "is everything OK" checks at the table. My friend rushed his food down and then was given a free dessert to takeaway, but we ended up being late for our film at the cinema.
I hope they can sort out some of what seems like organisational/service issues as the food really is good.
Original review: This is a new discovery for me and I'll definitely be back. Firstly, the staff are amazing. Read moreEllie of Lah Koh: The Charismatic Connoisseur of Cocktails.
When you wander into Lah Koh in Salisbury, expecting just another evening at a bar, you don't anticipate leaving as the newfound president of the Ellie Fan Club. Yet, here I am, writing a review that does more than sing praises; it practically composes an opera for Ellie, the maestro of mixology and wizard of witty banter.
From the moment we stepped into the ambient embrace of Lah Koh, Ellie greeted us with a smile that could light up the darkest of English winters. She wasn't just a bartender; she was a storyteller, a confidante, and a magician with a shaker. Her knowledge of spirits and cocktails was encyclopedic, yet delivered with the charm of a friend sharing secret recipes.
The real magic happened when Ellie started recommending drinks. It was like watching a conductor lead an orchestra, each suggestion more tantalizing than the last. "Try the SoJi" she said, and suddenly, I'm nodding like a bobblehead. "How about our signature Japanese whiskey" There goes my head again. Before we knew it, our table was a colorful canvas of cocktails, and our budget had thrown itself out the window, cheerfully waving goodbye.
What's remarkable is how Ellie made spending £150 on alcohol seem like the deal of the century. She could probably convince a fish to buy a bicycle if she wanted to. Her knack for upselling was not just effective; it was an art form, delivered with a mix of humor, knowledge, and an infectious enthusiasm that could make even a glass of water seem exciting.
In conclusion, Lah Koh doesn't just have a bartender; they have a gem named Ellie. She doesn’t just serve drinks; she creates experiences. If you're ever in Salisbury, and you fancy a drink or five, ask for Ellie. Just be warned, your wallet might get lighter, but your evening will definitely...
Read moreMe and my friends and fiancé went here for a late lunch after shopping for my bridal gown. Service was very poor, we had to wait 30mins for someone to come to us to get our drinks, we did say we will order food straightaway coz we have been waiting for a long time already. Server said she will grab her colleague to take our order. We kept asking them if we can order but they were just walking past us. One server who gave our drinks didnt have her hair tied up and was touching her hair then would touch our drinks. Again had to wait for another 20mins kept asking them if we can order and they would just say it just 1 min. Finally, we asked again and the server just said they weren't sure if we were ready to order. 1hour of sitting there and asking staff if we can order surely will give them the hint that we have been dying to order. We were so ready to leave the place at this point. Our food came out not 2 at a time so again we had to wait before we can eat and have all of food ready. And with the food, it all came out cold. Never coming back to this...
