On a trip to Southend I passed by this restaurant and thought what a beautiful setting. So went in for afternoon tea. When we went in the initial entrance was empty, no staff so we walked around for a while until we went upstairs and then downstairs to find staff. We were told afternoon tea was only available after 24 hours notice, although the manager was nice enough to invite us to have a hot drink and check out one of their desserts, so we went in.
Firstly the restaurant looks beautiful. Such a lovely setting and space. After we sat down things started to go a bit downhill. Firstly we had a booth and the seat was really uncomfortable. Needed a cushion to help your back. Then we ordered Jasmine tea which was really good and I had a decaf coffee which was nice. Then I ordered a brownie with raspberry crush and clotted cream ice cream.
The brownie came out looking really nice. The taste was good as well, although the ice cream tasted like ginger and spoiled the taste of the brownie. Also we was looking for the raspberries which were not there. After a while I asked the manager where the raspberries were and she got another manager because she didn’t know about the dish??? This manager came out with the raspberries in a small dish and said he didn’t see when the dish was served so he doesn’t know if the raspberries were there. I said look, we have not eaten all of it and you can see they are not there.
He offered me another one, which was too much as I had already eaten over half of the initial dish, then he offered me ice cream which I said no thank you. Then he left. For me as a good will gesture he could have taken the dish off the bill as I didn’t receive what I ordered. He didn’t though. So we paid and then went to the loo.
The toilet was nice although had some issues which I think should be addressed. Broken sink, broken toilet, lack of toilet paper. Shame for such a nice looking restaurant, my first experience didn’t lean me this go back and try any of their...
Read moreWe visited this restaurant to celebrate my husband’s birthday after seeing how nice it looked from the outside, but unfortunately, the whole experience was extremely disappointing.
From the start, things went wrong. Our waitress seemed to lose our order and had to redo it, which led to confusion. After waiting over 20 minutes, we realised our starters hadn’t even been placed. When they finally arrived, they were inedible – raw sardines that tasted rushed and poorly prepared.
The mains weren’t any better. One dish was completely missing, and instead, we were given an extra kids’ meal by mistake. Out of four mains, mine finally arrived but was undercooked raw fish. What should have been a lovely family celebration turned into a complete nightmare.
The manager did come over to apologise, but by then the evening was already ruined. Overall, the service was chaotic, the food was poorly cooked, and the atmosphere was stressful. Please think twice before dining here – it’s definitely not the place for a...
Read moreThe rest resturant looks pretty and the starter of soup was lovely but it went down hill from there.
Main courses of steak were the worst steak all of us have ever had. That was 6 steaks- cold, not cooked correctly (one literally cremated) they did change it but everyone had finished by the time this came out. We would have sent the rest back but 1hr30 minutes in we were all starving and didn’t want to wait any longer.
The restaurant was empty but we were right at the other end of the dining room. Service was extremely slow.
Don’t think we will be returning very expensive for...
