We visited Molly’s Cafe Bar at 11:45am on Thursday 26th August 2021, we had cockapoo Trixie with us, a decision to lunch at a dog friendly place would be perfect to enhance our visit to Stonehaven, hence Molly’s seemed like a good choice . A friendly courteous young waitress met us as we arrived seated us and took our drinks order, advising that the lunch menu is not available till 12 noon, drinks arrived 5 minutes later and the waitress took our food order. Trixie cockapoo enjoyed a cool drink from the water bowl provided for dogs and sat under the table in the shade as the sun shone high in the sky , we enjoyed our seating outdoors. 12:05pm our order of Fish and Chips (Battered Haddock) for me with Duck in Hoisin Sauce wrap with chips and salad for my friend arrived . Initially I was impressed with the portion on my plate of fish and chips, until eating the over fried fish became a task , cutting through the batter resulted in crunchy bits of batter falling on the plate, no chance of eating it with a fork other than to swoop the cornflake like pieces with the side of the fork like a spoon, the fish itself was bone dry , really dry, £13:50 for this is outrageous , the person frying , prepping and serving this knows this yet they served it to a paying customer , unforgivable . My friend enjoyed her meal , I must admit the wrap was well filled and her glass of Rosé was served quickly and very much enjoyed . We finished with two Latte’s and one Sticky Toffee Pudding, the dessert was well received , more than adequate and worthy of the price asked, thumbs up from my friend . As we ate at our outside table a passing elderly woman spoke to a waitress to enquire about disabled toilets location for her friend , the waitress advised that the nearest one was a distance away and offered the use of the Cafe’s disabled toilets, the lady stated “but we won’t be eating here” the waitress said that’s “No Problem, Your More Than Welcome To Use Our’s” well done to that fine young waitress and Mollys Cafe policy, a moment later a very appreciative elderly woman with walking difficulties made use of the facilities . In summary , a nice well positioned Cafe on the beachfront with fine views over the harbour , when the sun is shining it’s great to sit outdoors like we did, dog friendly ( I never expect to see a dog sitting indoors as people eat ), water bowl appreciated for dogs, great friendly service, offer of toilet use for non customers is magnificent , prices on a par with other establishments offering this service , we left happy though Haddock at £13:50 chewing like a biscuit of dry cornflakes was poor , hence the three stars ( chips, salad and slaw perfect). Will I rush back to Mollys next time I’m in Stonehaven - NO - will I revisit -...
Read morePopped in just a little too late for breakfast (again sad face) but settled in with some delicious cakes and tea. Only disappointment was that they had changed the cakes up from the day before (can’t remember what the one I’d had was called but omg). Anyway. This was our third visit there and the cakes did not disappoint once again. We had sat there watching the sea from a beautiful view point at a window table until we could order lunch which was only a 15 minute wait for the turn around from breakfast. My partner had the Croque Madame and I had the cheddar cheese & tomato chutney toastie. Both were absolutely devine. The bread was toasted to perfection; usually toasties anywhere else are either too limp or too “burnt” to the point where they have no flavour. Molly’s were absolutely perfect. Deliciously mouth watering and full of flavour. Partner said the egg on his was cooked perfectly too. That wasn’t all either, they both came with a side salad and some nachos as well as coleslaw on mine. I have always been one to eat the side salad because I was raised as a kid who couldn’t leave the table until the plate was empty. Safe to say, this is the first salad I have ever enjoyed when out. So much so that I ate my partners one too. The rocket and other leafy greens were fresh and crisp. And the onions! I’m not sure what you did to them, like a sweet pickling of sorts, but wow! Honestly delicious and I would genuinely love to know how you got them to taste so great. I’m not a coleslaw fan but again how I was raised, I still ate some and was pleasantly surprised, it was yummy and full of flavour. I reluctantly let my partner eat that though as I did nab his salad. Food was genuinely beautiful and we can’t wait to come again when next in town. Service was great, always lovely...
Read moreOrdered a vegan breakfast, and it arrived with egg. Explained that this was not vegan and the plate was taken back. Around 1 minute later, another plate of food arrived without egg. On closer inspection, it was clear that all they had done was remove the egg. This might not bother some people. However, I personally do not want to eat anything that has been sitting in egg. I asked the waiter, who confirmed that yes, they had just removed the egg! My 2nd plate of food was taken away and replaced with a 3rd plate. The 3rd plate was a fresh plate but the same food on it. At this point, I resigned myself to the fact that I would not be getting breakfast and declined the offer of a fresh breakfast. I was then offered cake, but there were no vegan options. The young waiter was lovely and tried his best to be helpful. Perhaps in future In this situation, ask the customer if they would be OK with the item being removed from the plate - my friend was OK with this and enjoyed it. I was not ok with it. I was disappointed as I really wanted to love this place. It's on the beach and has lovely decor and atmosphere. I must add that obviously I was not charged for the breakfast, and i appreciated not being...
