The service really let this experience down. We were in a very long line of customers and waiting to be served. There was as one very nice chap serving at the till, making the teas and collecting the cakes, meanwhile 3 staff members stood around talking (pretending to wipe a cloth round the toastie oven) and another cashed up a till (which would have actually been helpful to be used!). The customer being served at the till questioned as to why no one else was doing anything (they had apparently run out of cups at this point!). All 3 members of staff became really defensive, and one turned around to say “they had had 3 tills open earlier, had been really busy and we are due to close in half an hour!” As if this gave them a right to stand around and we were all simply an inconvenience to them! Very disappointing!

Once we were served by the very lovely member of staff at the till (who was working very hard!), the cream tea...

Best location for a cafe but unfortunately the food and service does not match. Other customers also complaining today. Staff seemed very stress today even though it is Thursday and not too busy. Kids lunch box was a full sized hard cheese roll, fit for an adult not a toddler, with a bag of bear crisp, banana and drink from the fridge. Failed to satisfy/ feed the 3 year old toddler as the sandwich should have been soft white bread squares. Coffee just got past the description as fresh coffee but very strong and the cakes were a little plastic. For some reason the Windsor farm shop cafe is a lot better experience. This is a total lost opportunity to be a festival of food in the medieval setting with staff dress accordingly. Come on Castle the cafe needs to step up to meet the other spender the...

The atmosphere was very friendly, but the employes looked very unhappy. Taking photographs inside the castle is prohibited. Yes. We didn't either. However, while we were taking photos inside the cafe, the staff at the cash desk warned us very rudely. "No, no, taking pictures is forbidddeeeen" he shouted. We were surprised at what happened. The bottom part is simply a photo in the cafe. Moreover, there was no warning inside or at the entrance of the cafe. The warning style of the staff was very rude and ugly. There were also other people taking photos there. They even took photos of the prices. But no one warned them. Why? Another issue was that the forks, knives and plates were not clean enough. Please pay more attention to hygiene. It doesn't...

After walking the grounds, we decided to have a late lunch here. It's a surprisingly charming café... Tucked beneath St George’s Hall, the café sits inside what was once a 14th-century medieval undercroft, originally used as a wine cellar for Edward III’s court. That sense of history hasn’t been lost. the stone arches and vaulted ceilings give the space a quiet, atmospheric feel that makes even a simple coffee or diet coke feel special. The food is fresh and well presented, with a good selection of sandwiches, pastries, and warm dishes. It’s not a large café, but it’s comfortable, clean, and thoughtfully designed. The staff are friendly and efficient, even during busy visiting hours.

Visiting the Undercroft Café during my Windsor Castle tour was an absolute highlight. Set within a beautifully restored medieval cellar beneath St George’s Hall, the café provides a magical ambiance that enhances every bite . I loved the fresh, seasonal sandwiches, soups, and salads made from locally sourced ingredients, along with the delicious homemade cakes and pie. It struck the perfect balance between historical charm and modern flavours, truly a hidden gem within the castle complex!

I came here for lunch while looking round here with the disability charity I belong to. While the food was excellent and the staff were very helpful and provided great service, what marks this place down in terms of service is the lack of guest WiFi, with the password for the WC Café network not being provided to customers. That needs to be rectified given the lack of phone reception in the vicinity.
