Well where do I start. I was in Windsor with a friend en route to the Long Walk outside Windsor Castle to pay our respects to HM The Queen. We quickly realised that this would not be a possibility due to the surrounding roads being blocked off. We settled on watching the procession at the Royal Windsor instead.
The pub is set in a stunning location, right at the foot of Windsor Castle. We arrived arrived at around 1300 to secure a good spot in front of the several TV’s they had set up to cover the funeral, the procession was expected to reach the castle at around 1500.
At around 1450 the manager started dragging tables and chairs around in a very loud manor (would have been just as easy to pick them up and move them in a quiet fashion) in an attempt to seat more diners I presume. This happened several times. I and the rest of the pub were reflecting on the Queens life of service as the funeral was coming to a close. The manager then screamed across the restaurant at a couple of people stood in the door to “keep the doors clear”. I understand the reasoning but again, he could have done this in a more respectful fashion. He was clearly oblivious to the fact almost everyone was glaring at him in disgust. At that point I had had enough, I had to say something. I kindly asked him to show some decency, this wasn’t a time for profiteering with the funeral literally due to finish within a matter of minutes. He then had the bouncer remove us from the pub, to say I was shocked would be an understatement. Never in my 53 years have I ever been asked to leave a pub. Once outside I must admit I did lose my cool, this want helped by the manager then standing in the door mouthing “f*#k you towards us”. He then engaged in a separate argument with a different group of people as we were walking away.
This chap ought to have a good hard look at himself as his behaviour was nothing short of scandalous. Needless to say I won’t...
Read moreWe went out to Windsor on Sunday 2.8.2020 and fancied a Sunday roast so decided to go this pub we were directed to a table that was not cleaned after 5 minutes a waiter comes over and partly cleaned the table we had some wet wipes and cleaned it up. We asked if they were still serving Sunday roast so we ordered the lamb and beef roast and my mother in law ordered the flat bread like pizza waited over 36 minutes for our food that is after I asked the waiter what was the hold up he went into the kitchen and immediately come out with our food which was probably sitting under heated lights, the lamb was so dry and the most disappointing unseasoned food my girlfriends roast beef was literally hurting her throat it was so dry,my god the gravy was as poor and had no taste bisto gravy would of tasted better.my mint sauce was like running drain water the Yorkshire pudding was dry and burnt,my mother in laws dish could of been used as a weapon it was so hard and overcooked,I am a really good cook my self and I would never ever serve food like this to my friends or family and paying £ 75 wow when I went to the bar to pay my bill I told the waiter very politely the was was dry and not nice his answer was it is 4 pm and late when we ordered our food so why in God's name did you serve me dog food I would never even give that food to my dog was very disappointing with the experience and food which was really not fit for human consumption The royal Windsor please don't serve food that has dried out and burnt to customers I am really sorry for leaving this review but I feel I was robbed of...
Read moreDecent Snacks, but Baffling Service Order My recent stop at The Royal Windsor public house for a drink and some snacks turned into a slightly perplexing experience, warranting a three-star rating. While the pub has its charms and the food was good, the service sequence left something to be desired.
The pub boasts a classic, welcoming atmosphere – a perfectly pleasant spot to pop into. I decided to order a couple of snacks from the menu along with my drink, anticipating a relaxed bite. When the snacks arrived, I was pleased; they were tasty and hit the spot. Credit where it's due, the kitchen turned out some good nibbles.
However, the puzzling part was that these snacks landed on my table before my drink did. It felt incredibly odd to be starting on my food without my drink in hand, especially when just ordering snacks. It’s usually expected that the drink arrives first, or at the very least, together with the food. This lapse made the service feel disjointed and took away from the simple pleasure of having a drink and a bite.
My drink did eventually show up, and I finished my snacks, but the odd timing was the main takeaway. It's a fundamental aspect of pub service that seemed to have gone awry during my visit
In summary, The Royal Windsor offers a nice setting and tasty snacks, but the service flow needs attention. Hopefully, this was just an off moment, as getting the drink out before the food seems like a basic step...
