Ocean Spray — Restaurant in Great Yarmouth

Lovely place. We have been coming to Great Yarmouth for a long time and have always avoided the restaurants on this stretch. On our most recent visit we were stuck for somewhere to go and so I checked google and trip advisor and this place had consistently good reviews. This place isn't cheap but you get what you pay for, they serve good quality food. We hadn't booked but we only had to wait for around 10 minutes for a table. The staff were so friendly engaging with our 7 and 4 year old. Our waiter James was lovely, they were busy but still managed a chat and popped to the table a few times to check everything was ok. The children's menu had a good variety and it was very reasonably priced. My partner and I both had steak (he had king prawns too) and it was to die for! Melted in the mouth. The peppercorn sauce we ordered in addition was beautiful too, clearly homemade. The only downside to this place is the fact that it is located in Great Yarmouth which is 3 hours drive from my home! Food decent (Not amazing). Treatment of customers poor. Arrived and asked for table of 4 to be told we couldn't use bays set for six (both empty) but we could have a table set for four, but only for an hour. We weren't allowed a high chair for our two year old, apparently because of walkway and health and safety. Questionable. Requested to swap cheese on burger from cheddar to Stilton. Tried to charge me £2.50 for what would be a tiny amount. I did point out i had requested no coleslaw...no discount there of course :-)

On our way out, our table was given to a two (despite earlier being told we must sit on appropriately place settings table) and a separate table for six had seven with chair in walkway. Apparently health and safety not an issue if you're a full...

On arriving we were told there would be a wait as they were busy. After 10 mins our drinks order was taken and soon delivered. About 30 mins later our food order was taken. Our 2 year old then promptly fell asleep. The meals had not arrived after an hour so my husband complained and was told that she did tell us there would be a wait! After 1hr 30 mins our food arrived. 2year old still asleep so we asked for hers to be put in a bag to take away. When we went to pay we complained again about the wait and were told again that we were told to start with there would be a delay. We were never told how long - if we knew it was going to be over an hour and a half we would have gone some where else. Very poor service. Will not eat there again. Had to put one...
