Woodbridge Cafe — Restaurant in Guildford

Went to visit Dapdune wharf and came here for breakfast based on seeing previous google reviews.

We both ordered the set breakfast, was £4.95 very reasonable, with a choice of beans or tomatoes. Bacon was thick with burnt crispy bits - very enjoyable with brown sauce. Was very busy full of families, couples, young and old. It's a 'proper cafe', nothing fancy. We were there just before 10am and were order number 180, that's how busy they were!!

Only down side was, the owner, I presume, was on tills. He instructed a young man, to clean something with a cloth. The young man picked up a cloth. The owner shouted at him 'not this one, I've already told you'. The young man picked up the one he was supposed to. The owner was muttering under his breath for 'f* sake'. He then said to the customer, in front of me in the queue, 'you have to pay them certain amount of money but they cant do the work!'. This I found very unprofessional. Maybe he knew the customer in front of me. I doubt it because the owner then explained to him that he can order fresh or tinned tomatoes with his breakfast and he should always ask when ordering. The customer ordered fresh. When it was my turn, he didnt offer me fresh or tinned tomatoes. Nor was he particularly friendly.

Yes, the place was busy but he had 3 individuals cooking and 2 servers, from what I can see. Plus him on tills. I dont know why he was so grumpy. The actual cafe reminds me of a conservatory/extension, and it was full. We waited about 10mins for the food, which was reasonable.

Overall, good, easy, very reasonable food. Owner maybe grumpy at times. This is a proper cafe, dont expect...

Appalling service.

Me and my mate booked the Mega Breakfast Challenge a few weeks in advance, only to turn on time and be told it's not ready.

Now, I do understand mistakes happen and was fine with waiting, however, we waited for more than hour without any updates from the staff, while they were serving other customers that kept coming in during our wait!

I then asked for a specific time frame and was told our breakfasts will be ready in 5-10 minutes. The 10 minute mark was drawing nearer and nearer, and no food was seen. Then, out of nowhere, we were asked to pay in advance, yet no food was seen. I asked again for ETA, bringing up the 5-10 minute time frame, and again was offered further stalling. I mentioned again that our breakfast was scheduled, described our situation, and that there are other people coming in and getting their orders before us, to which the lady responded that "They are busy today", and "I am extremely rude to her". Absolute disrespect of a customer's time.

To the lady I interacted with: please consult a dictionary and educate yourself on a difference between "assertiveness"...

I used to love coming here. The menu was always the same for years and I got what I wanted every time at a really good price. A classic English greasy spoon. Since the new management took over, things have gone downhill I'm afraid. They're very friendly, but they've changed their menu for some inexplicable reason and now there's not really a decent set breakfast without swapping things out and mucking around. They've got one of these stupid touch screen tills that just complicates everything and after telling them what I wanted 5 or 6 times they still got it wrong. They also seem to have changed suppliers - the sausages are not as nice and the fried slice is not as good as it used to be. Mine was soggy.
