This is an incredibly well run efficient establishment with warm and attentive service but with without doubt the wonderful food was the lasting memory. A warm brasserie feel could be further enhanced with a review of soft furnishings and artwork . The bathrooms at the back of the dining room would benefit from some artwork softer lighting and decorative pieces to further finesse this wonderful restaurant. The wine list is well constructed and balanced offering wines from around the world at excellent value , we chose the Chardonnay as it is my mother in laws favourite grapesand it did not disappoint, it would have been nice served a little more on the chilled side our server was very accommodating to provide us with a bucket of ice and this cooled things down nicely. Tea smoked salmon was soft and melding and delicious served a selection of pickles and cooked and puréed beets . An offer of some crusty rolls or sour dough would have been a perfect partner but sadly not offered . Pork fillet was tender pink and perfectly cooked and beautifully presented , sherry jus was light and flavourful and pulled the dish together. fondant potato was cooked to perfection butterie perfectly seasoned and melt in the mouth . This accomplished cooking of a high standard . Raspberry crÚme brûlée lacked a little sweetness and slightly over cooked on the edge of savoury custard that lacked the velvety cream texture one would desire. A lot of passion goes into the food and service here and I look forward to my next visit . Thank you for a lovely afternoon .

Had the 8 course tasting menu before. Tried the al a carte menu this time. Still delicious food. Friendly staff. Great value. Update. Came back for the tasting menu again. Superb. Delicious. Excellent value. Updated 12-07-2025 Returned to Ascoughs for lunch and yet again the food was delicious and the service fantastic.... Salt and baby octopus Chefs bread with house whipped butters Cured Chalk stream trout with pickles and a caper/dill tartar Crispy pork belly and black pudding bon bon (I think) Pork cutlet with truffle fries and pepper sauce (amazing) Hake with mature cheddar and onion gnocchi

This was a great dining experience. The food was delicious, the hosts were very attentive and polite, and the overall surroundings were nice. Starting off with some artisan bread was a nice touch. I noticed they had a great selection of local ales on the menu, even though I chose the wine, of which they also had an extensive choice. I can certainly recomend the pan fried cod lion for main course - it was so tender it melted in my mouth. Portion sizes were good, and it didn't break the bank either so felt like great value. Compliments to the chef, and no doubt we will be back.

We booked this restaurant four weeks in advance due to availability. Given the length of time from booking to visiting the excitement had disappeared, how this changed on arrival. A Saturday evening with friends changed as walking through Ascoughs doors. The restaurant is fanominal, the layout as been carefully considered. The quality of the furnishings are more than adequate. On sitting down the staff were extremely helpful, considerate and accommodating. This continued throughout the evening. The menu has good range, to cater to all. I can personally admit, the Steak was perfectly cooked, the quality of the cut was superb. Whoever there chefs are should be commended. I am reasonably well travelled, I would go as far to say that the Steak was the best I have ever eaten! Given the quailty of the food, this is not an experience restaurant. The surroundings atmosphere were enjoyable, the atmosphere the same. If you are looking for something special or to impress someone, look no further, you will not be disappointed. My wife can be a fussy eater, in 25 years I could count on one hand how many times she had cleared her plate. The evening could not have been more delightful. My sincere thanks to all the staff, they were all professional. Ascoughs has to be the best restaurant in Market Harborough. I have given Ascoughs 5 stars on all categories, anything less would be disrespectful and...

I had booked a table for 4 people last night for a group of girl friends to meet up when we hadn’t seen each other in a long time. My sister was feeling low so I said she should join us. I tried to call all day to change the table to 5 people but couldn’t get through. I thought adding a chair to the end of the table wouldn’t be a problem, especially as it would be more money for Ascoughs! I was told ‘sorry an extra chair will block the aisle’. I looked around and saw plenty of tables tucked away in a corner where an extra chair would have been in nobody’s way. They then said ‘we won’t be able to fit the crockery on the table’ even though there was plenty of room and I said we didn’t mind being a little cosy! The next excuse was that they didn’t have enough crockery and the last thing was ‘sorry, this isn’t something we do’. We booked months in advance, was very polite and apologetic, but were met with such attitude, I was appalled. Their customer service was terrible and I was very disappointed. We ended up going to another restaurant -...
