With the cliff railway out of action we walked up as we had already paid for the smugglers caves. I was gasping for a drink. We went in I sat myself down outside with my son while my husband went to the counter. He stood there for ages while the staff chatted amongst themselfs. And he was ignored. The member of staff then went into the kitchen, leaving my husband just standing and waiting. Hubby then came out and sat down as we wernt sure if staff came to us. The service was poor, the girl on the till didn't have the best comand of English (although was polite), we had to wait 20 minutes for our food, then the order was wrong. The lemons were brown and not fresh and the salad garnish was just hacked at and thrown on the plate.The tables weren't cleared away promptly or cleaned. The floors were unswept and dirty. Nice to bring a sketch book with some tea and cake to look over the sea in Hastings. 4 stars for a little queue and they were running out of cakes when we got there mid afternoon, but still cosy and friendly.
