Mwah — Restaurant in Hastings

Mwah is an Asian pub sort of place with good drinks and really delicious dumplings, sticky rice, pau and much more. Their decor is super fun with a lip sofa and super long black and white chairs which gives the customer some good times in terms of pictures and keeps them engaged with their decor. I’ve lived in Malaysia before this and have had some really good dumplings and pau, the one over here is delicious too, the best in hastings I would like to add. The service is friendly and it’s a family own and run restaurant. They provide lemon and cucumber water for everyone which I really liked. Moving on towards the food, I ordered the chicken grilled dumplings, steamed prawn dumplings, spring rolls with soy sauce and sweet chilli sauces. They were served hot and were great for the cold winter which was comforting for me. I’d ask recommend the sticky rice with chicken and red bean/custard...

A friend and I had a very disappointing experience here recently. The abrasiveness of the manager/owner (?) could have been forgiven had the food not been so awful.

While the dumplings and fried rice could be generously described as mediocre, the chicken noodle soup was in a class of its own: tough and salty pieces of chicken with bland noodles and what were clearly defrosted vegetables suspended in a bland, watery broth (almost like a thin cabbage soup).

Rather than acknowledge any of this criticism, the owner became very defensive, insisting everything was fresh and implying that the problem was with me and not the food; not a good attitude if you’re genuinely committed to improving...

We were overall pleased with this experience, the restaurant had a warm vibe, with a welcoming staff and environment. The staff were lovely although the decor was a little plain. As soon as we came in, we were seated, then our food came quickly. One of us ordered a Mwah Bowl, which was delicious, as were the steamed prawn dumplings. I highly recommend them! The pork bun was delicious, and seemed to be made with a lot of love. Also, someone working there, who seemed to be the manager, couldn’t have been more kind and attentive.
