After hearing down the grape vine that the new management had apparently fired the old chef due to customer complaints about the food and hired someone new with a glowing resume, I went here with some friends to try it out. I should also note that management has apparently stated that it's all home cooked food.
I had the lamb shank which came with mash, peas and carrots.
Home cooked my backside. The peas were obviously canned, the carrots clearly the frozen kind, and the shank itself probably one of those boil in the bag jobs. I would hazard a guess that the mash was also frozen due to the fact that I'd probably be able to hang wallpaper with it. Overall I wasn't very impressed given the nearly £12 price tag. The food was more reminiscent of the type of food you'd get at some greasy spoon cafe. Had the price been more reasonable given the quality I wouldn't be complaining, but for £12 I could grab a takeout with more character and still have enough change left over for a couple beers to wash it down with.
I usually don't leave such scathing reviews, but considering the recent change from a Weatherspoons I feel the management need to be made aware that the quality of food they're currently serving is just not up to par. The friends I went with all had similar disappointing things to say about the food.
Anyway, I can say with some certainty that I won't be visiting again, after some previous bad experiences when it was a Weatherspoons I no longer wish to waste my money on a meal that statistically I'm sure I won't enjoy.
For the sake of anyone else going there I hope management take note and try to amend either their prices or quality, because as it stands people are being overcharged for sub standard food.
The pepsi was nice though. Little...
Read moreWe held a hen do away from home. With little knowledge of the area we started ringing pubs & venue to assist with the “party” part of the do. We came across the Crafty Baron. They were up for it, promised to help set up and helped with a semi private area of the pub. I honestly thought they’d over promised and over sold. Man, was I so wrong. We dropped of the decorations and went back hours later to a semi private area set up and decorated. The lady was excited to show us what she had decorated. And boy did it look amazing! She’d taken her time and it looked so good. Her vibe and anticipation really set the tone. She was amazing.
The bar staff were great and joined in with the silliness from us girls. The juke box was good with music playing all night. The lady previously mentioned came up with ideas that just made the night better.
Everybody was welcoming and lovely. Drinks were great and reasonably priced and drink we did!
All in all a rememberable night and an experience we would not have got from anywhere else. This pub really made the hen do fun and we would not have had such a incredible event...
Read moreI used the baron often when it was under Weatherspoons and was looking forward to experiencing the new "refurbished' baron. However, i was deeply disappointed in what patrons of Hinckley seem to be calling 'a breath of fresh air'... i can assure you its quite the opposite to say the least. For somewhere that's been marketed as upgraded didn't even have proper salt and pepper shakers, the laminated menus were battered and covered in old sauce and if i'm honest the decor didn't seem different at all. The staff were friendly and approachable however what i'd ordered wasn't put through the till correctly and i ended up with something i didn't want (i didn't realize this till the food arrived at the table). The coke i had tasted like a cheaper alternative not 'coca-cola'. i must admit the meat was good quality and the salad on the burger looked fresh but i was disappointed with the reheated chips that were not 'steakhouse' quality as stated on the menu. i shall not be returning to this establishment and recommend that anyone that wants a standard meal makes the short journey round the corner to...
