Sumac Grill — Restaurant in Hinckley and Bosworth

Update review - we finally got the chance to have our meals in the restaurant on the 16th December 2022, Friday night and our experience was NOT good 😔

We booked our table at 730pm, restaurant was half full on arrival, first impression was very noisy and cold (one staff wore a massive coat with furry hoodie). We ordered the set meal (simple meal), the starter took half an hour to come (which all ready made) we felt even colder as no food for such a long wait. After starter, we waited longer than an hour with asking 3 times about our meals, were told kitchen was very busy and would take 6-7 minutes, meals came after another half and hour, food was nice but the waiting time totally ruined the whole experience, we were offered complimentary drinks but not helping.

Restaurant was so cold, I had to put my coat back on, and saw other customers got coats on too.

Restaurant was busy, but it shows bad time management, shouldn’t book customers in if kitchen or staff couldn’t cope! We would be more than happy to come in at 8pm or later, but no communication at all.

Very disappointed with the restaurant experience.

We ordered takeaway from Sumac Grill online, very easy and straightforward.

Food was delivered at the arranger time, staff was polite at the door.

Food was amazingly yummy and good portion sized, we ordered 3 main dishes, 2 rice and 1 chips, meals came with free breads, salads & sauces, and all enough for 5 of us (all adults) great value for money.

We had booked in advance and received appalling service, abysmal standard of food and no care from management. Unfortunately, a total waste of money and time.

Firstly, our starters came cold or luke warm, these dishes were meant to be served hot. Some of our party did not receive their starters until 20 minutes after the first few starters were served. Our group were less than 10. Considering five of our party had ordered the same mushroom dish, there did not seem any logic for two members not to receive their mushroom dishes and waited for 20 minutes after everyone had finished their starters for their's.

We waited more than 40 minutes for our mains and unfortunately, every individual in the group was highly disappointed. Dishes had to be sent back as meat was either over done or sent to the table raw, with meat fat not being rendered which left the gristle very visible and inedible. Two moussaka were ordered, one vegetarian and one meat. Both were underwhelming as neither seemed to have any cheese sauce but covered with a sauce that was tasteless and bland due to lack of seasoning. Fish was dry and over cooked.

Throughout the meal, not one member of staff came to the group to enquire if the meal was OK or if we needed any drinks. When we expressed our disappointment regarding the meal to management there was no real remorse but a false platitude of a token apology. However, no form of recourse was offered. We were staying in Hinckley for one night and chose to go here for dinner due to the overall high ranking. Turkish cuisine is a family favourite, so we regularly visit our local Turkish restaurants. As a family of 4( 2 young children who don't have big appetites) we always order 2 mains and some other Mezze, but we usually end up bringing some left overs home as I also don't have a big appetite either. We ordered 1 main, one Lahmajun and one set menue here, when the food came out, I was shocked at the portion sizes as it looked like they were starter sizes and not mains! We straight away realised the food wasn't going to be enough so ordered another main. OMG that was also tiny when it arrived! We finished everything on our plates and to be honest didn't feel that full up either! Food did taste alright but considering the prices the portions were small. Staff were very polite and the atmosphere was nice. But I don't understand how they think it's acceptable to serve such small portions for these prices, it's just disgraceful! If I am ever back in Hinckley, I sadly won't be going back to Sumac again as I don't think afer spending £69 on dinner, you should still feel pekish when you get back home! Again this is a family of 4 who usually can't finish 2 food portions...
