We went for breakfast at The Anchor recently whilst in Horsham for a family christening. The Beefeater at our premier inn hotel was closed for refurbishment, so it was an ideal local spot for breakfast on both the Saturday and Sunday, to cater for a large group of us and a crazy 4 year old! The breakfast wasn’t great unfortunately; extremely sloppy porridge and scrambled eggs! I ordered the steak breakfast on the Sunday, but was informed as the orders came out that they were out of stock, so I settled for poached eggs instead. It’s a shame we didn’t get to sample their main food menu, as I feel the breakfast didn’t do them justice! What did impress me was the ideal location (right in the market square), the relaxed setting (perfect for children) and the fact you didn’t feel rushed to get out. Matthew was amazing and he made our Saturday morning for us! Always a smile on his face and excellent customer service at all times! A real shame that Graeme the General Manager was never smiling or seemed happy in any way to be serving us; our party was extremely disappointed by his behaviour, and felt it let the team at The Anchor down. I hope to visit again in the future to sample their main menu, as long as Matthew is there to serve us again! Definitely worth a...
Read moreI was there with some work colleagues last Thursday, the bar staff was not at all friendly nor welcoming from the first instance, they first said they ran out of chicken burgers, then when I asked for something else they said the kitchen is closed (before 19:00) then said they have only cheese burger with bacon, I said I do not eat it. I asked for veg option, they served me a burger with ice cold uncooked veg burger patty. I showed it to my colleague who spoke to them, but didn't wanted to create a scene as it was a work event and also coz there was an incident involving the police. they didn't even come and apologise, they just kept staring me all the time, when I was paying for drinks for my colleagues, the young man came to me and said my card didn't go thru embarrassing me in front of collegues, when I showed him the bank statement on my phone app, they then covered up saying they gave me the wrong bill.
I was clearly discriminated against as I could see they were nice and friendly to all other customers but only...
Read moreI've been in twice since the new refurb. Once for lunch on a Friday and then again on the Saturday night.
For lunch the place was quite busy (understandable, as it was a Friday lunch). We were served promptly though and the bartender was very friendly. We both had cheese burgers and a couple of pints for under £20. The food was tasty and great value.
On the Saturday we arrived around 8pm and the place was really busy. A good atmosphere and a good balance of men and women from their late 20's upwards. The bar is quite large and they had plenty of staff on, so we were served quite quickly. We were only going to stay for a pint or two but they had a DJ start playing around 9ish. He mainly played quite decent house music, which was a welcome change to the usual Horsham pop chart drivel. We had a great time so ended up staying until just before closing when everyone seemed to head out to the local club.
