It's not often I leave a review, let alone a negative one, but the service we received tonight was definitely sub-par.
The atmosphere there is absolutely lovely, the table we were sat at had a really nice feel to it.
We started off with drink orders which were fine, asked for a food menu which sadly never arrived, I was hesitant to go into the bar due to current restrictions and a sign that suggested we wait for table service, but despite my best efforts I was unable to get the attention of the waiter that had seemingly forgotten about us.
Once I had a glance on the website and decided what to have I headed into the bar area to order as we had been sat for well over 30 minutes and no sign of our forgetful waiter. I ordered vegetarian chilli nachos and some cheesy chips.
Once the food arrived, I double checked with the manager / waitress that the nachos we were given were definitely the vegetarian ones, she looked at them, confirmed they were due to being able to see the lentils in it, and asked us if it was our first time here.
about 5 minutes later she came running back out to tell us that we were actually given the meat nachos, and that the waitress I ordered from "definitely confirmed back the order which you agreed." that never happened. Not as apologetic you might think someone would be feeding 2 vegetarians meat.
We were then given the actual nachos we ordered by a waiter who was much more apologetic and accommodating, and continued with our meal.
After we had eaten and left our plates in a pile ready to make a dessert order, we then were left waiting until just after 9:30, again I decided that enough time had passed that I would go into the bar to order, only to be told that the kitchen closed about 2 minutes ago and they would not be able to fulfil my order.
All in all a poor experience and even more disappointing as it was our first time there and to have this night as a first impression, its very doubtful we will return for food...
Read moreHorrific experience with no baby changing facilities. Good food and service so would have been 5* review if not but this completely ruined it for me. They should make this clear - would not have gone if I knew.
I’m not one to ever write reviews but I couldn’t not mention the lack of any baby changing facility. Please please please do not go here if you have a baby and intend on changing them whilst you are there. I Initially asked the manger if there was a disabled toilet/changing table somewhere to use for my 3 month old, but she advised there was no facility’s for this. She Advised me that I could use the Office upstairs for privacy, but failed to mention it was up 4 flights of tight and winding stairs, trip hazard central and whilst holding my baby I thought thats a terrible idea, so I said thanks but no. Proceeded to try and use my pram bassinet instead but was very cramped in the room so got flustered and stressed and decided to go upstairs. Nearly in tears trying to not fall down the stairs or trip on something I managed to get to one of the so called ‘office rooms’ upstairs but all were in horrific condition with stuff everywhere, so I just had no choice but to sit on the dirty carpet, and change my crying baby on the floor… to say I was angry and upset about this is an understatement. Trying to then get back down 4 flights of narrow and winding stairs with trip hazard everywhere, whilst carrying a baby, and the changing mat etc was horrific. As I say, I never ever write revs, and I’m not one to even be phased by a lot when it comes to making the best out of a shit situation (especially in motherhood) but that was outrageous.
On the other side, the food and service was very nice. If you don’t intend on bringing children, then great. If so, I’d avoid it unless you want to change your baby in my condition, or go back to the car, but then again, there’s no carpark so...
Read moreI’ve been to The Greyhound more times than I can count, and it never disappoints. The atmosphere is always warm and welcoming, and it’s the kind of place that feels proper local while delivering food and service well above expectations. The staff are exceptional, and a huge credit to the pub. Dan the landlord, and the entire team are consistently friendly, attentive, and genuinely kind.
The food here is a cut above your usual pub grub. While they’ve got the reliable classics like nachos and beef burgers, the real draw is their ever changing specials menu. Every dish we’ve ever tried has been imaginative, beautifully presented, and packed with flavour. This time, we shared Chorizo Mac and Cheese, Samosas, and Arancini balls to start. All delicious! For mains, I had the standout Pan-Fried Lamb Cannon, Crispy Stuffed Lamb Belly, Whipped Feta, Braised Lamb & Wild Garlic Bonbon, Baby Beetroot, Asparagus and Gravy. A dish as good as it sounds, cooked to perfection! Others in our group had the Tikka Masala, which was equally well received.
The Greyhound is a must visit for all. Great food, great people, and a great pub through...
