Having looked at the reviews for several restaurants in the area I booked an early table at tupelo. We were welcomed and seated by a lovely young lady who was very attentive and friendly, she told us there were several dishes on the menu not available (I would say we were probably the first evening diners so this was not a great start, however, as they were not dishes we would have chosen this didnāt actually matter). We ordered from the new Winter menu and waited with anticipation. This really was a tale of two halves: My wife ordered the belly Pork which was very nice and a decent portion size too, I ordered the King Scallops and was sadly disappointed, the Scallops themselves were cooked ok but there was a flavour I couldn't identify that overpowered everything on the plate with an earthy taste and frankly spoiled the dish - I did eat it but would certainly not recommend or order it again. Main courses arrived, again my wifeās dish, cod, was nicely presented and well cooked. I had ordered Beef Bourguignon which was simply a bowl of stew (I have had this dish in a lot of different restaurants and it has never been presented like this before), it lacked any depth of flavour and was probably 75% onions to 25% beef (not great value for a dish costing Ā£18). The vegetables and mash were perfectly cooked. In total our meal was just over Ā£100 - having eaten at a lot of restaurants over the years I would say that was overpriced by about Ā£40. To sum up, if you order the right dishes you will have a nice meal however, I think that you can get better for less money within a few miles of here. We probably...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreMe, my partner and mum came for breakfast. We walked in and sat down and was given a menu, we had to ask for a drinks menu and we was given a stubborn response which basically meant āwe donāt have a drinks menuā. We waited 1 HOUR for a fry up which is a really simple dish. We were not warned of the wait and we had no apology about the delays. A table next to us received food before us and they had arrived 30 minutes laterā¦when I finally received my food it was a lot smaller and messy compared to my partner and mums, and they had the exact same meal. I had a tiny bit of bread with barely a tablespoon of scrambled egg. There was also food missing from mine and my mums meal such as āpotato Rostiā which should of been there. The food was lovely when it came, but the service was very flippant and quite rude. I understand it is newly open but I was extremely disappointed with the service and food especially for the price. It cost us Ā£46 for it, I expect to have a nice breakfast that doesnāt take a life time to arrive. I will not be returning...
