Among the things to like about all the 3 Atkinson's in town are: good cakes, nice sandwiches, quality coffee and nice atmosphere. The Hall is pretty big and you can usually find a space. 3 stars for food/drinks because of the extra charge for oat milk, which makes a non-dairy coffee nearly £4. Because of this, as a vegan, someone with an allergy or non-dairy preference, you feel unwelcome here. It's also not mentioned anywhere on the board, so you may feel unexpectedly stung by this hidden extra, which even applies to a tiny splash of milk with tea. Not sure what the rationale for the extra charge but it's a shame as (much as we like this local business) it sadly puts us off coming in, sending a message that this isn't somewhere non-cow milk drinkers...

The Hall is the sister venue to neighbouring tea and coffee shop Atkinsons. The Hall is a large airy café and partial storage space for coffee beans. In terms of variety and faithfulness to proper coffee serving, The Hall is world class, and easily outranks some of the best coffee houses in London. Here you can try siphons, pourovers, flat whites, ristrettos, piccolos, all made with precise attention to detail. If you really love proper coffee then Atkinsons and The Hall alone are worth a trip up to Lancaster. Downsides are that it can get a bit noisy when it's full of people, and it's a bit cold in winter, but if you want a cosier café then The Music Room over the road is also part of the...

Honestly, this was the WORST experience ever. ordered something and sat down to study. Later I took out half of my own sandwich -my own leftover lunch- from my bag to eat while working. Then this guy (I think he’s the owner) comes up grabs my sandwich bag and goes like “You know this is a restaurant, right?”"this is not elegant" in a really super rude tone Like… EXCUSES ME?! touching my food and telling me how to be elegant?! That was so rude, disrespectful, and honestly felt kinda racist. Such a disgusting attitude. I’ve never been treated like that anywhere. Never coming back here, and I don’t recommend this place to...

Couldn't recommended highly enough for anyone wanting coffee and cake. We went for a siphon/chemex coffee, latte, almond croissant, and orange and almond cake. One of the best coffees ever had! Sweet treats made it all the better. The "Hall" is Atkinsons main cafe, and on the same castle-side of the street as it's shop. The Music Room is tucked down a side street on the opposite side of the road we didn't go down to.

Tasty cappuccino, nice atmosphere, fresh toilets (love the rosemary soap), good sandwiches. However, coffe and walnut cake was almost inedible because it was way too sweet. We ended up leaving more than half of it. We also had the courgette and orange cake which was quite good but it was probably a few days old so could have been better. In my opinion it was too much raisin in it as well.

A perfect place to stop and shelter from the rain! I had the hazelnut and apricot flapjack and a latte which were both excellent. Noticed they sell beers from among others Farm Yard including a collaboration with Atkinsons themselves who provided the hibiscus flowers - Purple Burglar Alarm. A good excuse to return to sample this Sour beer.
