Visited on 15th June 2013 7:30 pm. This pub has really gone down the toilet over the years. Though the beer that I had (Doombar) was well kept I was amazed at the volume of the music (Stones and Dire Straits) I'm a musician and like all types of music but this was way too loud. The place was virtually empty with three locals at the bar.. the two barmaids on at the time would have been asked to leave if they were customers in an average pub, they were very loud and behaving like some of the girls you would expect to meet when the clubs were closing. At one point they both sponaneously tried to sing something very loud which was un-related to the already loud music. Won't be going back there in a hurry. Especially when there are some great pubs like the White Cross, Penny Bank, Water Witch, Sun and Three Mariners to chose from in Lancaster (unfortunately there was not a "very poor/discusting" option in the available ratings on this site, otherwise I would...

What an amazing locale! Real ales… lagers… huge selection of shorts… gins, rums and whiskeys… the ambience when you walk in is breath taking… it’s like walking into a time capsule, photos on the walls of everyone that’s ever played a gig… rare whiskeys on display in locked cabinets… a place you can sit… drink and admire! The staff I met were full of knowledge and customer service skills were above and beyond the norm. I had a dark ale… yet got to taste all on offer… perfect bar staff… This pub is geared around music… not head banging stuff or genres difficult to absorb whilst chilling with a real ale, short or other tipple… live music all weekend from all generations… If you are in Lancaster one day on your travels… looking for that old school welcome or indeed just a place to chill This...

One of the best pubs in Lancaster. The variety in live music is amazing and refreshing for a town buzzing with musical talent! The open mic on a Sunday is brilliant with a fantastic vibe throughout the pub and the Saturday afternoon music makes everyone feel welcome including a full pub sing a long with the band to some fantastic pub classic! The staff are fantastic and friendly, myself dealing with the two young ladies who were bubbly and inviting making each and every individual customer feel welcome. A true asset to the pub! Would highly recommend and encourage many to take the time to have...

We visited the Ye Olde John O'Gaubt on a Saturday night in September 2019. My partner is from Lancaster and it was a catch up with old friends, one of whom was playing on the band The Section, and a great time was had by all. The pub was very traditional, well lit and had a good selection of premium beers, wines and spirits. The highlight of our visit sit was the band, The Section were absolutely excellent musicians. They played a variety of classic American and British rock. If you get the chance to see this band, I'd highly recommend trying to catch them, they were brilliant.

Wow, what a great place with such a brilliant atmospere. Visited during the Lancaster music festival and it was by miles the best atmosphere of all the venues we visited. It was the 1st time I'd seen / ordered 2 pint sized glasses of beer, but OMG they were needed. The place was absolutely rammed, which meant getting to the bar was a nightmare, hence 2 pint glasses being a great thing!😄 There is a little stage at the front where the bands played, the interaction with the crowd was brilliant by the bands and it was simply a great cracking.

This was a classic pub to go for a drink at, one of the ancient Ye inns across the UK! The music playing really boosted the atmosphere and the drinks were laid out well at the counter, where I was served by a friendly staff member. I had a quality Dead Fingers passion fruit drink with a Pepsi mix, a rarity that was quality and cleanliness was maintained entirely!
