I wrote this review on another platform, but it seems no one cares about it there, so I will share my experience here on Google Reviews:
I was a regular customer at 92 Degrees in Claypit, and while most of the staff were very kind and polite, Ray (the manager) is an exception who sadly tarnishes the experience.
Ray consistently behaves in an unprofessional and rude manner. On multiple occasions, I witnessed him closing the coffee machine 30 minutes to an hour before the official closing time, denying customers the opportunity to order during the shop's listed hours. Once, he even rejected my coffee order outright, only agreeing to process it after realizing I had a subscription. This kind of discrimination, where customers without subscriptions are treated unfairly, is unacceptable. Everyone, subscription or not, has the right to order before closing time.
Ray also creates an unwelcoming atmosphere in other ways. He used to turn off the music 30 minutes before closing and opens the door early. His loud, brash tone and tendency to shout at customers make the environment uncomfortable. While some people seem to receive preferential treatment, such as free coffees for female customers or friends, others - including myself - have been treated with rudeness or indifference.
It is disappointing to have such an unpleasant experience with the manager when the rest of the staff have been kind and professional. Rayās behavior is a recurring issue that significantly detracts from the otherwise good service at this cafĆ©. Itās unacceptable that he tries to dominate the place as if he were the owner, shouting from a distance to his friends and pretending to be cool, when in reality, he's just bothering the customers.
The cafĆ© is usually packed due to the subscription model, and given that itās located next to student accommodations, many students study there.
If you really enjoy this coffee, try the Boar Lane location near the train station. Itās much calmer, thereās a tall guy there who makes really good coffee, and overall, your personal space will be respected - unlike at...
Read moreI am a regular customer of 92 Degrees after being introduced to it in my first year of uni. It is a cozy, atmospheric spot that is both a perfect place to study or enjoy a catch up over a coffee (or hotchocolate). Both the coffee and service is exceptional and I've never had a less than perfect experience. I am part of the Gymnastics society and every year we have a fundraiser for BEAT which is an eating disorder charity and we raise money by raffling off prizes donated by businesses around Leeds. I spoke to whom I assume is the manager/owner and was met with the utmost kindness and genuine care. They donated a handful of amazing prizes that contributed to raising over £700 for the charity - which is the most we have ever raised! So on behalf of the gymnastics society and the charity BEAT thank you. We couldn't recommend this place more and we will continue to enjoy it as a social...
