The WORST UNIVERSITY. DO NOT GO HERE. Being a student at this university has been the most awful few years of my life. If it wasn’t for the sheer expensive of it already spent, I would’ve quit. I’m considering on a weekly basis leaving due to the impact it has had on my mental health. I am a school of health student and have found that there is NO SUPPORT at all, you can sit and beg over email for a staff member to answer a simple question and you’ll get out of office replies (during business hrs) or some vague answer that usually directs you to go read through some 1000 page handbook that still doesn’t have the answer (I’m sick of reading it). Everything is self directed so don’t expect the teachers to teach, they put together a vague power point and that’s it. My tutor has been changed a million times because they keep quitting. I have been asking the answer to something for 4 months and only just got it 6 days before the deadline when I’ve been told what I’ve done isn’t sufficient enough. They went on strike for one of our exams (40 minutes into the exam as we were sat waiting for it to start) so it was cancelled and we was told because no one has done the exam then this may prevent the entire year from progressing. The communication is non existent and they are constantly telling us one thing and then going back on it and changing their instructions.
DO NOT GO TO THIS UNIVERSITY ESPECIALLY FOR A HEALTH DEGREE. THEY DO NOT CARE! THEY WILL NOT...
Read moreNot fit to be called a university. I studied postgrad and the lecturers went from bad to worse.
Eg. The lecturer who didn't like my writing style and marked me down for it asked me "Which country were you educated in?" to which I wanted to answer "do you always explain your decisions with racist questions?", but I just said "England". Eg. "The topic we're covering today is boring and irrelevant but the accrediting body says we have to cover it". Eg. Conversation with my dissertation / project tutor, she said almost word for word "I know it's a part time course and the uni sells itself as being able to work around student's needs, but I work part time so I can only meet with on Mondays, between 10 and 11am, except for the next two weeks. We can meet in three weeks time and then I'm on holiday until the week before the date your dissertation is due in." Eg. "yes, we did tell you there was a strict word count on the exam, but we didn't look at it when we marked your exam". Eg. "yes, we have raised the fees for the course without notifying you but it doesn't matter because your employer pays anyway".
Just a few examples- don't think you need any more to draw your own...
Read moreLikely the best university for graphic design in West Yorkshire. I transferred from another university where I had a bad time and I felt I had been deceived about their facilities. Leeds Beckett was very much an improvement. The staff have really technical knowledge from 3D modelling to coding and they know how to teach these complicated subjects in a way which can be understood. The staff are also nice and will discuss your work with you, which they honestly weren’t like this at my previous uni.
For me the only downsides are the cost of housing in Leeds, which even the Leeds Beckett accommodation is more than I would expect students to be able to pay. It can also be quite lonely being by yourself in a city. The student union isn’t as big as other...
