Unfortunately, if you're craving excellent roast pork or duck, you might find yourself compromising on service quality at this establishment. I've dined here over ten times, and while the roast duck and pork consistently impress with their juicy, flavorful, yet perfectly seasoned profiles, the service leaves much to be desired.
The restaurant operates with a frustrating inconsistency regarding card payments. Although they possess a functioning card machine, they frequently claim it's out of order—until you attempt to leave, prompting an abrupt change in tune. Previously, they enforced a minimum £10 card payment after I'd already ordered. On my most recent visit, this policy mysteriously increased to £11. It's understandable for businesses to have a card minimum due to transaction fees, but the lack of consistent policy is misleading.
Additionally, the transparency in service could be improved. During a recent visit at 6 PM, I ordered a dual combo of roast pork and duck, only to be told they were short on duck—even though a full duck was visibly available in the kitchen. I suspect they were trying to promote less popular items like roast chicken or char siu. Reluctantly agreeing to substitute, I chose a three-combo plate. Unfortunately, upon arriving home, I found that my roast pork had been swapped for char siu, contrary to my order. When I tried to verify my order at the counter, I was hastily reassured everything was correct, discouraging any checks.
While the food here might be worth the visit, be prepared for questionable service integrity and frustrating...
Read moreThe food quality seems to be worse than before. Price has increased a bit which I understand due to inflation. With a portion is around 10.5£, I would recommend Maxi’s rotisserie inside the kirkgate market rather that eatime now, whilst two months ago I would prefer this over Maxi. The other thing is that I came near the evening and they ran out most options. I have been a regular and understand that they don’t have much to offer before they close so I asked nicely what they have. The cashier girl was very nice but the chef was complaining behind the counter in Cantonese that ‘I can just look at the window of what is left (instead of asking)’. It seems to be an overall issue with Chinese/ Cantonese restaurants or eatery in town that they really don’t treat you nicely if you don’t speak Cantonese. Disclaimer: my mother tongue is Cantonese but I still find it rude that they just gave a comment like this thinking that the customer won’t understand. I also think it is a pretty normal thing to ask what is left for sales without being...
Read moreI’ve always loved the roasties and rice combo and hearing this place also offers it, I had to try it. In terms of value for money, the amount you get for the price is a lot, more than enough for lunch. With the restaurant being in city centre, it’s a great place for lunch, but the seating area is relatively small so finding seats might be difficult during peak hours. In terms of the flavouring of the meat, it’s good, but not as good as another restaurant that offers the same dish. So for that reason, out of 3 restaurant for this dish, I’d rank this 2nd. However, I’d still...
