I visited here yesterday with a group of friends and based on the reviews thought it would be a good alternative to the Ivy that we couldn’t get a table for.
We arrived at 6pm and it took over 30 mins to get drinks and the place was boiling hot with just 1 fan. Our starters came out around 15 mins later and a lot was left to be desired. I can see in previous reviews this place has been claimed as a casual dining experience but the vibe of the place and the way food was served would suggest they’re trying to be more than that. The bao bun was rock solid and inedible, the point of a bao bun is to be soft, light and fluffy however mine resembled a brick. The lamb was chewy and borderline inedible and was only consumed as we were really hungry. The mac and cheese croquettes portion was very small given the price.
It then took a further hour for our main food to arrive. It was clear the people have bottomless brunch were prioritsed as their food arrived quickly and they were regularly bought top up drinks. In this time we asked for water on the table 4 times and this wasn’t bought over until we had our main food. We were never checked on to see if we needed more drinks despite us finishing these within a few minutes due to the tiny sizes. 200ml of Coca Cola is insanely small for £3.25. You get more in a can for a lot less.
When the mains arrived there was also issues, the gnocchi was swimming in oil and inedible. The steak was small and tough and the upgraded peppercorn sauce was awful. The salsa on all the burgers tasted like a jar of Doritos salsa and was oddly overpowering. 2 of the chips were saturated in oil to the point that our plates had the residue left behind whilst 2 of the other chips were relatively normal and tasty.
We have no faults with the staff as they did everything they could to rectify this with removing items from the bill. The food has let this place down and it’s a real shame. It looks beautiful from the outside but the basic functionality of a restaurant is lacking. Maybe this would be more...
Read moreVery much overrated. We went on the strength of the Masterchef accolade. What a letdown.
I can't imagine any of what we had would have impressed the judges on MC. Fries were cold. Replaced with hot fries when we flagged down a waiter, but these were bought half filled. Surprising considering the first serving was sent back full. The second batch were fried without aerating. Two thirds were fused together like a thick rosti. Salad was gritty, evidently unwashed, the flavour wasn't anything to write home about. Quite terrible actually. Poorly put together. Broccoli overcooked almost yellow and flaccid. The orange juice is pre bought not freshly squeezed tasted cheap. The lamb chops, tough and sinewy and rather old looking. Accompanying mash looked and tasted quite stale and left our for too long. The sausages are quite flavourless and the breakfast we ordered looked haphazard and poorly put together and tasted like a cheap canteen breakfast. Coffee is machine made via the push of a button and unpalatable. Not what you'd expect from a "Master Chef". I liked the m&c croquettes, crunchy, freshly fried and and sufficiently cheesy.
I would not revisit. Ever. Overall I felt a lot of corners were cut to make the food on offer, profitable thereby comprising heavily on flavour and quality. If you're into InstaFaceTikX, you'll love this place for pics. Expect the food to be very poor though.
The happy hour, 'drink as much as you can for a single price', I see is very popular if you fancy getting tipsy, this does make the place quite rowdy at times, especially too early at the...
Read moreI had made reservations at the restaurant for me and some friends but due to unforeseen circumstances that were out of our control we arrived late. We apologised and understood if our reservation wasn’t available. However, we didn’t appreciate the manner in which we were spoken to. We were not even give a chance to explain before the rude, arrogant manager began his rant! He just laid into us accusing us of not have the courtesy of calling, yet he didn’t even allow us to speak and explain. The place was dead, as you can see from the pictures. They were not in any circumstances busy, which is becoming common occurrence. He went on to say he would seat us this time and made out like he was doing us a favour. After the way we were spoke to you can imagine we did want to stay! Not that he was concerned about losing business, he just shrugged his shoulders and was like ok. This would explain why business seems quite recently if this is the kind of attitude the manager has. What made the situation worse was other customers during this time had arrived, who didn’t have reservations and were seated and spoken to politely and respectfully! The difference between them and us was, we were South Asian and some wore hijabs. In this day and age and in the multi-culture city of Leeds I, and my friends have never felt such discrimination as we felt today! From reading previous reviews this is the first this has happened, where you have received complaints about staff and management being rude and disrespectful. Seem like you don’t care as you clearly haven’t done...
