We visited Bastards Bistro on Sunday 5th October for a Sunday roast for a group of seven. We ordered seven roasts and didn’t mind waiting a bit, given the size of our group. However, around 20 minutes later, a single board of roast arrived with only four plates, leaving three of us without food or plates. We weren’t told that the board was meant to serve four people. In fact, based on the small portion size, we assumed it was for two. We waited quite a while for the rest, but nothing came. Eventually, we had to get up and ask at the bar, and a staff member came over to ask how many people were still waiting, which was surprising given that three of us clearly didn’t have food in front of us. She later explained there had been a mistake with how the order was entered, and that the remaining food would be out soon. When the second board finally arrived, we were told it was meant to serve three people, which was shocking, as the portion size was incredibly small considering the roast costs £20 per person (so £60 for the tiny board). As you can see in the photo I’ve attached, the board for three was tiny, missing parsnips (which were on the other board), and the beef and Yorkshire puddings were cold. To make matters worse, there was just one small, pathetic bowl of green vegetables supposedly meant for all seven of us to share, completely unacceptable for the price and number of people. There was no apology, no compensation, and no effort to make up for the situation. Overall, this was the worst Sunday roast we’ve ever had. Overpriced, cold food, and service that completely missed the mark. Would not recommend.

Went for Sunday lunch, had pre booked and was seated quickly on the heated terrace which was lovely. However it took so long for our order to be taken, to the point we went up to ask if it was easier to order at the bar, not the waitresses fault as she seemed to be the only one taking orders, maybe more staff on especially as it was busy would’ve been better. The roast itself was presented beautifully, however it was a massive let down considering the price. I got the pork which said it came with crackling but it wasn’t even slightly crispy, the meat was really salty and lacked flavour, the gravy, mash and potatoes (£5 extra for potatoes is a bit pricey) were really good, as well as the veg even if it is a single carrot and parsnip. The Yorkshire pudding was hard and not enjoyable. A member of our party also had a serious allergy, which we told the staff about on the booking form as well as when we ordered, they served him the wrong things so obviously forgot about his allergy, the waitress did take it back and removed the item but there was no apology or friendliness when it was brought back, or a replacement offered. Just felt very robotic. Overall wouldn’t return for the Sunday lunch.

Greenrooms – New Chef, New Menu, New Obsession! I went to Greenrooms today and WOW – the new chef and menu are unbelievable. Me and my friend shared a feast: chicken burger, chicken flatbread, mac and cheese, nachos, and chips. Every single dish was a solid 10/10. The chicken burger was juicy and perfectly cooked, but the chicken flatbread stole the show – so much flavour that (dare I say it) it even beats Sqew in Leeds! The mac and cheese was creamy, cheesy perfection, and the nachos… oh my days, the salsa was next level. I need that recipe immediately. If you haven’t been yet, you’re missing out – 1000% recommend!

If The Green Room in Leeds was already a 10/10, their new expansion has cranked it up to a solid 15. This place just keeps getting better—like a fine wine, a perfectly aged cheese, or that one friend who somehow gets more attractive every time you see them.

Let’s start with the classics: their margaritas. These beauties could bring a tear to your eye. Balanced, punchy, and dangerously drinkable, they’re proof that perfection can be poured into a glass.

The staff? Legends. From the bar team who mix drinks like wizards to the door staff? Quite possibly the friendliest in the city—welcoming, professional, and cooler than you’ll ever be.

But let’s talk about the expansion, because The Green Room has outdone itself. The quirky new toilets alone deserve an award—bold and fun. Then there’s the basement. Oh, the basement. A dimly lit, effortlessly cool haven where live music transforms your night into something straight out of a movie. Whether it’s an intimate acoustic set or a DJ spinning tracks that keep you dancing till late, it’s the cherry on top of an already flawless venue.

Throw in a gorgeous rooftop, incredible food, and an atmosphere buzzing with good vibes, and you’ve got yourself a place you’ll be raving about long after your last margarita.

If you haven’t been yet, what are you waiting for? And if you have, well… you’re probably already planning...
