Well when we went out for a bite to eat late on Easter Sunday, we were not expecting this treat.
Hooleos (owned by Julio, hence the name) is a casual dine in mexican restaurant that delivers on taste.
We ordered ceviche, mole oaxaquena and tacos al pastor which suprised us at how well they were cooked. We also ordered tamarindo and horchata which was fantastic as well
Mole is a complex sauce which is often hard to make. Now, it has been years since I have had mole oaxaquena and my nostalgia finally gave me a hug tonight trying this food.
If you love mexican food (and I dont mean Chiquitos or Taco Bell), I mean REAL mexican then look no further.
The real highlight was probably Julio himself. The owner was very friendly and chatty, he told us about his life and took great care of us. As it was late and an Easter Sunday he even gave us some free samples (including Carne Asada) to try as he was passionate about his food.

Julio (Hooleo), we'll be seeing you again in the future. Thanks for the...
Read moreIt was the end of a busy week, getting late and I was slightly hangry after an evening climbing session. We stumbled across Hooleos, drawn in by the kitsch, vibrant decor. How can you not walk into a place with cactus shaped jugs?

I didn’t regret either one, absolutely delicious. The salsas were zingy fresh, be careful though as one slaps you round the face with heat.
As it was a Friday night, of course you’re asked to contribute to the karaoke??? Sorry what??? Is this Michael Mcintyre’s Big Show??? Anyway, just go with the flow, we all need fun, slightly crazy places like this to lift us sometimes. I ended up contributing to the chorus of Hotel California. The food was bang on, the atmosphere generous and unique and the host, absolute legend.
Special shout out to the rest of the staff for bravely taking their turn on the karaoke. If you want a lift, give...
Read moreSecond time I’ve been here now and it impressed me as much as the first. The food is INCREDIBLE (I had the fish tacos this time and my friend had the pollo verde enchiladas). Everything is also so reasonably priced, including the cocktails! It’s a really small restaurant so it has a really cosy but vibrant atmosphere. The staff are lovely and attentive, and I LOVE that the chef comes over to check how your meal is.
I will continue to sing Hooleos praises and be...
