San Carlo's still got it! San Carlo Manchester has always been known for it's ability to attract the who's who of the city crowd. With it's busy bistro ambience and wine being a fantastic draw. But the food often failing to draw the same praise. After our recent trip to the Leeds location, I can tell you that the food is far from an afterthought! We were greeted by the Capocameriere and shown the a lovely corner table. A fantastic choice as a young couple with a lucky last minute reservation. Much obliged sir! The ambiance was fantastic, the waitstaff maintain a balance that only the truly exceptionally coordinated can. Never within ear shot and always just an inclination away from taking a drinks order. Truly, the team is exceptional. That said, the highlight of the evening is the food. My god, the scallops were cooked perfectly. The Frutti Di Mare was a personal highlight. But honestly everything was flawless. Our intention wasn't to order seafood exclusively. But when it's done with such practice. The rustic ingredients turned to art under the eyes of a master craftsman. We were both truly glad we did. Our compliments and gratitude to the team. Go see them for yourselves! We will most certainly be back.

Visited for the first time last night after recommendations. Firstly, I am impressed by the interior decoration and atmosphere as it was very modern and had great use of mirrors to brighten up the room. Even though we were running late, the staff were very accommodating and welcoming. The food was mostly good. The sharing seafood starter was great, nicely seasoned and fried, however the scallops weren’t fresh enough as it was a bit chewy. The popular lobster pasta was great, very well seasoned to accommodate the lobster flavour, however it could do with more variety with it, like more veg or additional seafoods to break up the dish a bit, but overall great. Similarly, for the Thermidor, it was great, however, the mustard was a bit overpowering and it should come with a side to give some freshness to the heavy flavour dish. Overall, I’d recommend this place, but a heads up, it can get very loud on a weekend evening when it’s full.

We visited the restaurant with higher expectations. The wine, the services and the atmosphere are very satisfying. The problem happened to the mussels tonight. We ordered some dishes, they were very tasty except Cozze all' Arrabbiata and the Risotto were served in complete failure because the mussels got rotten. I returned the first dish but the second kept coming as if nothing happened. So we tried to take out those mussels we smelt with doubts, kept it on the table for we are not some difficult customers. The scallops replaced were very delicious. We hope they could take this seriously. We wish to come back again when improvements are secured.

Trash The manager is an abusive inappropriate man. He has ruined my birthday. Tonight he has treated me like a dog. Totally embarrassed himself and the pathetic “free” birthday dessert certainly didn’t make up for his horrendous service. Who this guy thinks he is to speak to any customer in the way he does is beyond. From arrival when he was very rude to myself and guest, didn’t even show us to the table as though we weren’t good enough for his time. Then the food brought was clearly substandard and gross looking. Totally different from the same dish I’d had about 10 weeks ago at this venue. As a restaurant they should be embarrassed to serve such an item. Then they didn’t even provide a plate for it with the side order. He came over and put on a performance which was derogatory of me, then returned with a plastic folder of papers waving them in my face aggressively taking about food allergies. Truly bizarre and inappropriate. I ended up eating nothing but my friends French fries left over and this joke of a side order which was definitely half the portion it should of been. What an awful meal. Still paid nearly £40 for 2 drinks and this side to get out the door. Reused to pay the service charge. His behaviour and attitude was so grossly unprofessional and unacceptable. The older waiter at this restaurant is nice and professional. He knows how to behave and treat people better than the manager. On the previous occasion visiting this restaurant I was told I couldn’t finish my food because they were shortly closing when other customers were still drinking. In a rude way also. This was already a strange and inconvenient experience. The second recent visit has now turned out to be even worse. Avoid this trash restaurant with trash service!! Clearly a disrespectful and incompetent manager. Learn some respect for others! Stop ruining...

Very disturbing visit for our staff!! Disgusting customer service from the Guest Relations team at San Carlos. Our team of 9 staff visited San Carlo Leeds for our annual staff do and had the most distressing experience when an inebriated customer and staff were brawling in front of customers including small children. There was swearing, spitting, head butting and staff punching the customer to the ground, all while customers were supposed to eat their food. The incident was difficult for the staff but was handled very badly as they also became violent towards the inebriated customer. Our dinner had just been served when an intoxicated customer tried to leave without paying for an expensive bottle of champagne. There was a huge outbreak of violence and shouting whilst the staff wrestled with the violent customer. This went on for at least 15 minutes as they tried to restrain him until the police arrived. At one point a member of staff leapt across the bar and punched the man in the head as he was being restrained, and he fell unconscious to the floor. The police arrived and took the customer away. The whole event was very traumatic and most of our team left their food because of the adrenalin from the screaming and fighting. The waiter brought our bill, including the service charge and we swiftly paid and left, cutting short our staff evening out because we were all shaken up. We contacted San Carlo to ask for a refund and they offered us £100 which barely covered the service charge for our meal. They told us they had investigated what had happened, but did not ask us about...

We visited the restaurant last night as a group of 4. Our arrival was a little awkward as the restaurant couldn't find our reservation. We were seated regardless of this which we were grateful of. It was later explained they had mistakenly put our reservation down for the following evening. The experience quickly went downhill from here. The service was the worst I have experienced in many years of dining in Leeds and many other cities globally for that matter. The last experience with San Carlo in Leeds was some years ago however we did dine at the Cheshire San Carlo back in Feb 2020 and had a wonderful service experience. The food was delicious and we couldn't fault this but the service, or lack of, just ruined out experience. We felt like we were just abandoned for the night, constantly having to catch someone's attention to order drinks and additions to the meal. Genuinely, the only time we were asked if we would like anything was at the point of asking for the bill. It was especially disappointing because we had invited our good friends to Leeds for an evening out and the service, although obviously didn't ruin the night, was just an absolute pain. As a result, I explained to the waiter we didn't want to pay the service charge on the bill, which was £23.50 (10%) but at that stage they didn't even seem to care why! I would never eat in this restaurant again, there is no excuse for terrible service. Leeds is absolutely busting at the seams with amazing restaurants. My advise would be to go elsewhere!

Very displeased and...
