I'd rate our visit to Umee Sushi 3.5/5. I had a nice time but there was some room for improvement.
The teriyaki fried chicken was nice. Good portion, great crunchy coating. Teriyaki sauce nice but a bit too salty. Chicken itself didn't taste the highest quality but it wasn't poor either.
King prawn tempura had a nice light batter, I think perhaps the oil needed changing because the batter had a slight unpleasant taste. The prawns were juicy, however it looked like they weren't cleaned/ deveined on the inside.
I was quite disappointed with the spicy salmon uramaki. Not enough salmon, overwhelmingly avocado. Mayo had an unpleasant/ cheap taste. I expected the presentation/ preparation of the sushi to be cleaner for a restaurant with Sushi in the title.
The katsu futomaki was incredibly dry, and there was not enough chicken compared to the amount of rice.
My cocktail was nice (it was lychee something), but it was too sweet, a bit one note.
The service was good! But there was no atmosphere. Unfortunately it was empty aside from takeaway orders and one table that joined as we were leaving. I found the interior a bit sterile, all grey. Wasn't a fan of the loud music which had already looped by the time we left. The blossom decor was pretty, I wish there was a bit more to make the restaurant feel less cold/ canteen-y.
I'd like to go back to Umee Sushi and hopefully as they are still a fairly new restaurant with time it will...
Read moreFirst time my family and I visited Umee Sushi in Chapel Allerton. We arrived just before they officially opened at lunchtime but the lady who was serving us was very kind and let us sit in and she took our order very warmly and promptly. Dining was our fussy give year old, a more adventurous 8 year old and a smaller appetite adult. We ordered a chicken satay ramen, a chicken teriyaki ramen , some seaweed salad and for the smaller appetite a portion of beef bao buns. The ramen on miso was a delicious savoury unami flavour with a vegan complex broth served with tea stained eggs, bamboo shoots, seaweed on the side and some sweetcorn in the broth with soba noodles. They were both absolutely delicious. The seaweed salad was plentiful and our chopsticks made the experience fun! The bao buns were savoury and sweet with fresh vegetables and tender beef inside and proclaimed the best they'd ever tried. Our fussy give year old had some noodles but picked out bits of carrot and bean sprout and onion which was a shame. She had a full portion of chicken karage though and absolutely delighted in her strawberry iced tea which had popping boba inside it. There was another family dining when we were there and it was just a lovely experience. We wouldn't hesitate to recommend or to visit again and it's prompted our son to want to try other different culture foods now he's had his first ramen ! Thank you for a...
Read moreTried out a variety of things - overall very delicious food and lots of choice! Everything that we had was either very good or excellent.
The katsu curry is phenomenal, absolutely rich and flavourful sauce and the meats (had chicken and pork Katsu) were cooked crisp to perfection with no soggy or overly oily bits. Great portion sizes, and very fairly priced for the quality and amount you get!
Other items we had which were wonderful were Salt and Pepper chips, Chicken/Tori Karage and salt and pepper chicken/Tori karage, ANY of the Musubi, Wagyu burger and mango prawn sushi. We also had 2 different ramen bowls, which had elements of excellence within it (char siu, corn, broth), but not on par with the rest of the food in terms of satisfaction ; it was just missing that edge.
I would absolutely recommend for a visit, especially as it can be quite quiet there with opening being so recent! Special offers board is also outside and updated regularly - great idea, always exciting...
