Dear TKMaxx,
I'm contacting you in regards to a incident that occurred today while me and my mum were present within one of your stores (Church St, Liverpool L1 1DE).
Me and my mum were only browsing round to see what stock they had in as I usually would with any other TKMaxx store. Me and my mum happened to be near the front of the shop looking at the shampoos and conditioners which I had one in my hand ready to buy. I continued to browse round with the conditioner in my hand near the same area as I may have wanted something else. Shortly after the security guard (description: bald head, fairly tall maybe 5'11maybe 6ft, early 40's) who seemed to think he had the title of a police officer had started glaring me and my mum up and down which had already started when I entered the store but thought this was just a normal procedure that would be done with everyone when they enter the store, NO, this was not the case. I am an alternative 22 year old woman with numerous tattoos/piercings/unique style clothing (which is not cheap by the way), my mum being physically/mentally disabled which may cause her to act/look a certain way also me suffering with anxiety etc, I found it extremely discriminative for him to then clearly passively alert one of the female members of staff (description: smallish, darkish long straight hair, possibly early/mid 20's) to then come over to where me and my mum were looking (innocently) to then look us up and down, walk round me numerous times, looking through the isle shelf at me constantly, fiddling with products sugar coating as if she was doing something...to then give my mum a similar look almost as if we were stealing something.
I find this absolutely disgraceful as I have no past of criminal activity/records neither does my mother.. NOT SHOULD THAT MATTER. Not only was me and my mum discriminatley racially profiled today but you lost 2 faithful customers who will no longer be purchasing anything from your store again.
Not long after all of that dreadful behaviour I had gone to the till and paid for my conditioner, claimed a receipt and showed the security guard whilst mentioning "I've paid for this by the way" for him to reply with "no I wasn't looking at you". Disgusting behaviour TKMaxx. Is this something that happens to all alternative/disabled customers? I'd hate to know if anyone else was ever maliciously acted upon by a gang of bullies.
I'm expecting a thorough apology and a proper check on your workers/security guards within that TKMaxx, otherwise I'll take this further and request cctv footage and report this as a hate crime which it was.
Kind...
Read moren 1976, T.J. Maxx was founded in Framingham, Massachusetts, United States, by Bernard Cammarata. The first European store opened in Bristol in 1994.[4] The company modified the name to TK Maxx to avoid "confusion with the established British retail chain T. J. Hughes (which is not affiliated with TJX)".[5] In 2007, TK Maxx began winding down new store openings within the United Kingdom. Focus was given to revamping older inner city stores, or relocating them. This decision led to the creation of Maxx Maxx, moving from a budget reputation into a large department store format with a wider product range. Opening of stores in the Netherlands between 1999 and 2001 was not as successful as the company wished.[citation needed] The first store in Germany opened on October 4, 2007 in Lübeck.[6] In August 2008, TK Maxx opened a store on Kensington High Street, London, England, its first central London store, on a site formerly occupied by Habitat.[7] In the following year, TK Maxx became locked in a dispute over its plans to open a store at Piccadilly Circus, London. It had signed an agreement in February 2009 to occupy a 20,000-square-foot (1,858 m2) unit, formerly used by Virgin Megastores and later Zavvi, with a £1.55 million a year rent.[8] The freehold to the land is owned by the Crown Estatewhich had the final decision over allowing the company to move into the unit. The Crown Estate rejected the plans, saying that it did not fit in with the strategy it had for the site, which was meant to give the area an upmarket appeal.[9] The decision was met with condemnation from publicist Max Clifford, who launched a campaign in conjunction with Look to persuade the Crown Estate to allow the store to open in the unit.[10] A court appeal by TK Maxx against the decision failed;[11] Dutch retailer The Sting took the building as their first store in the United Kingdom.[12] In March 2009, the TK Maxx e-commerce site was launched, initially selling only handbags, but later also selling other accessories.[13] In October 2015, the first Dutch store opened in Eindhoven. Followed by two more stores in Groningen and Rotterdam. In 2017, the brand was launched in Australia when it took over the 35 Trade Secret discount department stores. The stores opened in April in Brisbane, Sydney and Melbourne with stores in Cairns, Townsville, Toowoomba, Newcastle, Wollongong, Canberra, Albury, the Sunshine Coast and the Gold Coast by...
Read moreI love tkmaxx as a brand but this store particularly today was the absolute worst experience I've ever had in a store ever.
My sister who is 13 and has special needs had thrown up in one of the shoe isles, as I couldn't leave her I asked a woman if she could grab someone off the tills to help. Someone finally dame to help, she looked like the manager on duty and said someone was coming and walked of. Very odd considering someone, a child, had just been sick, she did not make any attempt to stop customers from walking THROUGH the sick, the isle was not blocked off and they didn't not rush to help at all.
She came back woth another lady who was carrying a spray bittle and a couple of clothes, idk what thats going to do, the manager then asked of she was ok, well she's fine now after she's spilt her guts all over the floor, I asked for some tissues to which she began to get agitated at and said that she's asked but is still waiting, now I know its not the best situation but you do not talk that way to a customer who is trying to get their sister cleaned and out of such an embarrassing situation, I'm the one who should be agitated.
She finally gave us 1 wipe to clean her face after maybe 10 minutes of waiting, and then another for her shoes which were soaked in vomit. And they we left.
This type of situation needs to be sorted diligently, the area needs to be blocked off and cleaned ASAP. 10 minutes may not seem long but would you want your head hung over your knees with vomit all up your nose and around your mouth? No and especially not for 10 whole minutes. I'm sure there's tissues behind the tills which we were 5 metres away from, it did not need to take so long to get a child cleaned up.
This isn't going to stop me from shopping in my favourite store but this experience will be...
