Myself and my family came here for my son's 17th birthday. We booked a Greek night. We didn't get a Greek night. We got half an hour of Greek night where the belly dancer came out and she was good, then the rest of the night went downhill, they played extremely loud dance music. We felt like we were in a rave! We waited an hour for our starters, when they brought the mains they hadn't even cleared the starter dishes and gave us no cutlery. We were told if we booked for 7.30pm we would have finished eating by the time the Greek dancing starts. But because they were so slow in serving, we ended up trying to eat our mains with people dancing literally on top of our heads to YMCA. I didn't eat my mains, I couldn't relax and enjoy myself. I asked the bar man if I could speak to the Manager. He asked what was wrong so I explained, "I've paid for a Greek night but didn't get a Greek night, that's a night club". He asked me, "How do you know it's not a Greek night". I told him "because I've been to them before and I'm Greek so I know what to expect". The Manager came over and I had to shout over the music. He told me not to shout at him. I explained I wasn't shouting at him, I was shouting over the music. I told him the problem, his response was, "What do you want me to do? my son is in hospital having an operation so we can't do the Greek night". Then as a business you should hire someone else and give people what they pay for! Some of my family travelled a long way for this joke of a Greek night. The Manager then asked me my name, and asked where my family were from because I told him I was Greek Cypriot. He started talking to me in Greek and I told him, I was born in this country so don't speak fluent Greek. He carried on talking in Greek and I understood some disrespectful words. To not cause any problems as it was my son's birthday, I thanked him and went back upstairs. He said he would put some Greek music on. He put one Greek song on. Incredibly disorganised and poor service. Needless to say, we won't be back. A very disappointing night indeed.

Read moreFirst visit to the ‘new kid on the block’ . After many years frequenting the Gulshan and also enjoying Turkish food at another local establishment we decided it was time to sample the food at Anar.
It has had several weeks to get over any teething problems so we said let’s go for it, first impressions were good , very busy for a Sunday lunchtime and nicely refurbished, after a few minutes they managed to find us a nice table as we hadn’t booked. My issues started with the service , we had eaten a late breakfast so opted for a mixed grill to share , the other Turkish restaurant we visit offers this option but includes a lamb chop which my wife particularly enjoys, I asked if we could add a lamb chop to our mixed grill but was told this could only be offered on the much larger mixed grill for 2 as the till didn’t recognise an extra chop as an item, I said we were very happy to pay for it as an extra. The waiter left and returned to tell us we could order 2 lamp chops for £8 to which I replied I only want 1 and happy to pay £4 , once again he had to leave and speak to the manager who finally agreed it was ok. The food finally arrived including the controversial chop .
My wife then asked for a portion of plain yoghurt to which she was once again told was not on the till so could not be served , I pointed out that they must have plain yogurt as certain dishes were cooked in it any they served Taziki which is yogurt based ! Once again the Manager had to be consulted and this time he refused and would only serve us Taziki .
The food was OK but not spectacular, it lacked the authentic Turkish flavours, the main criticism however is the lack of a personal feel, it all seemed very rushed and automated for a quick turnaround , I didn’t think our request for a lamb chop and some plain yoghurt to be too outrageous a request , how it is dealt with on the bill should not of been brought to our attention and just dealt with quietly and professionally.
We will be back and hopefully they will learn that customer service is equally as important as the reputation...
Read moreAfter a complete mix up with our booking which was really disappointing as i had booked in advance for a birthday celebration and had family members in attendance including children and this created a very awkward conversation with the on duty manager in front of alot of other diners. To his credit he dealt with the situation well and we was eventually seated, although abit of squash and a squeeze it was greatly appreciated. The lady who served us couldn't apologise enough, as did the duty manager and explained the mix up, however i recieved a call asking why i hadn't attended/was i for my booking the following evening which eould explain the actual mix up as my booking amendments had been made but for the wrong date. Please do not let this put you off as i say it was dealt with well and we were seated, prehaps bookings shoyld be called to confirm the day before or the day of to avoid this situation in the future. The service was excellent the lady and gentleman serving us were welcoming, friendly and so polite and made us feel at ease following the mix up. The service was quick from ordering to being served and in between starters to main. This alone made up for it all but oh my goodness the food was absolutely amazing, really tasty, beautifully presented, great value and honestly everyone of us enjoyed our choices from kids meals to meat and seafood platters and various starters. The portion sizes were so good, we even brought some home as honestly could no waste such great food. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for a lovely evening in a welcoming setting with great food on offer at reasonable prices. We will be...
