This was my first time at miller and carter I had been recommended by my sister. We decided to go for my daughters masters graduation to celebrate her special occasion. Our booking was at 9.45pm. We called an uber as it was a 19min walk from premier inn lime street and we were wearing heels. The uber charged for the fee but the website kept saying ‘sorry we are very busy and this is taking longer than usual’ we kept waiting for confirmation and the app reverted our money back after waiting for 20mins when we tried calling another the website crashed and my card details seemed to have been removed. All this delaying us from getting to the venue on time as we are travellers and not live in Liverpool. I quickly called miller and carter to let them know that we had had an inconvenience with the uber and we were running 10 mins late. The gentleman who answered the phone wasn’t very helpful and quickly told us that if we didn’t order our food prior to 10pm our table would be cancelled. We had travelled all the way from Gibraltar to celebrate my daughters graduation and miller and carter was our chosen restaurant for this occasion. We managed to get an uber and decided to call miller and carter while in the uber to order our food. We called back and the same gentleman picked up and told us that we could only order mains as we were late. We arrived at the restaurant really rushed and frustrated and that we couldn’t even look at the menu properly and order the first thing that we thought of fillet steaks. When we got to the restaurant at 10.56 exactly (our booking was for 9.45) 11minutes late the person who welcomed us was not very welcoming and was about to say we couldn’t get our table when I then told him we had ordered the food over the telephone. He looked at as very surprised and challenged to speak to the manager then walked away. This was very a special occasion for us so I was worried they would cancel our table. He then came back saying ok we’ve got you a table. As I walked in the restaurant it seemed lovely and cosy. We where then sat next to the restrooms even though the restaurant was not very full. I asked if we could be sat at another table which seemed a bit nicer just a bit further away but not next to the toilets. I was told that they needed to speak to the manager again. (We wanted to take pictures while having dinner for the special occasion and we didn’t want the toilet sign behind every photo). We then got greeted by a really nice waiter who asked for our drink orders. We ordered our drinks and before they arrived and before we could settle in our steaks were placed in front of us. We started eating without our drinks. The food was amazing and very well presented. The drinks arrived and we continued to eat and try make the most of our experience. Shortly after lights had been turned off in different areas of the restaurant were they were cleaning and carrying rubbish bags out the restaurant all this during our meal. It felt that they wanted to pack and go home and I felt like we were a burden to everyone there for arriving 11 minutes late. We thought that even though we weren’t allowed to order starters, we were hoping we could have dessert as we thought this was already pre-made. While waiting for a waiter to ask for desserts I was surprised with the bill without even asking for it. That made as feel like they were checking us out. It’s a shame that they do offer late bookings online we picked the 9.45 s and then come to realise that you’re going to be rushed by the staff. If I knew this was going to be the case I would have booked at a much earlier time. To wrap this up I would like to say that the venue was beautiful and clean and the food 10/10 however we didn’t feel very welcome. Hats off to our waiter who was lovely and treated us very well. I would definitely go back perhaps to one of the other venues with the hope we feel a little more...
Read moreVisited Liverpool for my 30th birthday, and decided to choose miller&carter to dine at as I had a £50 gift voucher to treat myself. My booking was for 3pm but I decided I wanted to dine earlier than this so I waited and asked a member of staff if this was okay, I was told this would be fine and I was given a table. I was served by Becky who was lovely. I ordered the prawn & avocado starter, when the dish arrived it looked really nice but as I was eating I noticed there was hardly any avocado so for the price and the fact it was my starter was disappointing, then I ordered the favourite prime sea bass fillets with the vegetables and the garlic mushrooms for my side. My main did arrive quite quickly im guessing this was due to the restaurant not being very busy at the time, when my dish arrived it looked again really nice, but it was barely warm like it had just been sat there, so this again was disappointing especially when it was a treat for my birthday and there was no excuse really as the restaurant wasn’t busy. Becky came and asked me how my dishes were and I did say they were very nice.. but I just didn’t feel like I was being treat the way I should of it being a birthday treat as the level of the service wasn’t the best. I decided to leave dessert even though I had money left on my gift voucher as I didn’t feel welcome. I had to walk up to the till to pay my bill because nobody came to the table for payment, and l couldn’t seem to find the till. When looking for the till I was suddenly greeted by Andy asking if he could help me, I went to make payment with him at the till and accidentally got the wrong gift voucher up on my email which happens, and I feel like he made me feel like I was trying to leave the restaurant without paying. The gift voucher was just below the one I had accidentally given him, it was just a mistake. I then gave him the correct gift voucher code and I was given my receipt and I left without saying anything. This was my first ever time in Liverpool for my birthday and I chose to dine at miller&carter. I was given this gift to treat myself for birthday and the experience I had wasn’t the best at all so I won’t be returning...
Read moreI recently got married to the love of my life, and as part of our wedding gifts, we received vouchers for Miller + Carter. My wife and I were really excited at the thought of eating at what we thought was a higher end restaurant. This, however, was the wrong build up. I have to say that the staff were amazing and I'm sure the chefs (if allowed can produce some amazing food) The higher up management NEED to allow these hard working people to have a say on what is served.
The steak I had was £31. I've had better quality steak at independent restaurants that cost less. Served with the steak was a wedge. A Wedge of iceberg lettuce with a dressing poured over it, served in a bowl!! I dnt know if you have tried to chase bacon bits round a bowl with a fork but I can tell you, its not fun. This wedge is served BETWEEN your starter and main as a way of passing the time. The time it would take you to chase and catch the bacon bits in a bowl, with a fork allows the steak to age 30 days!!! My wife had the chicken breast which is served with the skin on, not crispy skin, although cooked left a fat residue over the meat that looked unappealing and needed scraping off, ironically with a spoon.
The cheese mushroom starter with warm bread, the beef dripping gravy were phenomenal. Not enough for me to sell a kidney to eat there again, but still very nice.
Finding out the chef had no say what is on the menu makes this an overpriced harvester and relies on high turnover of footfall rather than relying on the quality of the food.
Oh and if the mcdonalds managers find out their secret big mac sauce is on sale here might cause an issue.
If you do get vouchers to spend here either witness it for yourself and make up you own mind OR do what we will, pass them forward, preferably to someone you hardly know.
Oh if you do venture in and use the loo, dnt look behind the radiator while drying your hands. Black mould all over the wall! I was told this issue is handled every 6 weeks by maintainable removing the radiator off the wall to clean it. Surely removing the radiator from under the hand dryers would be...
