Now this is a proper Chinese! The typical no frills, constant working kitchen and packed with mostly Chinese people which is always a key sign of how authentic the food is. Friend took me to this place after telling me how good it was, boasting it was the best Chinese he’s had, so I had to try it. It’s what you would expect to find from a busy Chinese kitchen that isn’t quite as basic as a Mr Wu’s all-you-eat buffet but it’s certainly not fancy, the ground floor more decorative than the basement level, but that’s where all the hustle is. And anyways, you don’t come here for the decor. There’s your usual menu with all your favourite dishes, smallest selection of drinks and of course the obligatory Tsingtao bottled beer. But you’re here for the food and it’s certainly worth it! The portions are generous! One bowl of rice is certainly more than enough for two, especially if order a few dishes to accompany. My friend went for the Black Peppered Beef and myself, my usual go to of Kung Pow Chicken, and we ordered half a duck which comes with all the trimmings. The food is flavoursome, tasty and the meat tender. The chicken dish looked a lot darker than usual but I think that was a good sign. Great flavours and packed some heat. Duck was good and the Beef was delicious! Another good sign of this place being a good Chinese restaurant is having chopsticks and having a bowl as opposed to a plate. Just how I like to eat mine; out a bowl with chopsticks. But fear not, it’s not a test and there’s western cutlery available too. Service was polite, friendly enough and very prompt. But might be because we came in quite late. Probably not ideal for a date, if you’re trying to impress, but if you’re after good, authentic Chinese food that’s great value for money. This is the place, and the more the better as you can try a selection of dishes if you don’t mind sharing.

It was lunchtime and I fancied having a Chinese meal as I'd not had one for a long time. I consulted Google maps for the nearest one to our location and found this was the just around the corner so thought we'd give it a try. I had a look at the reviews to see what people recommended. I think this is the first restaurant I've ever been in were the huge menu was in Chinese with subtitles in English and there was a great selection of meals to choose from. The staff were very helpful in choosing the meals. We picked the Kung Pao and a squid dish with rice. The meals arrived very quickly and we were stunned by the size of the portions. The meals were very spicy but tasted beautiful, they had unusual flavours that I'd not tasted before out but were excellent. It took some time to work our way through all the food and I enjoyed it, will be back again to try some more of the meals on the menu.

These noodles offer excellent value for money, providing substantial portions generously packed with an abundant serving of savory meat. The portion size is notably generous, making it a satisfying and fulfilling meal for those seeking hearty and flavorful options that won't break the bank. The infusion of ample meat adds a delightful and satisfying element to the overall experience, making it a great choice for those who appreciate a protein-rich dish. Whether you're looking for a fulfilling lunch or a hearty dinner, these noodles offer a combination of affordability and substantiality, making it a favorite among budget-conscious diners seeking a delicious and filling meal.

Sadly Mr.Zhangs kitchen is not the same it used to be! I have been going there for over a year or 2 but the dissatisfaction and disappointment i had from my last visit was surprising. I think the customer facing staff in a place makes a lot of difference to your experience and thats why i always went back these last 2 years until my last visit where I found the staff to be not welcoming and borderline rude. Also i couldnt find any of the old staff out of which some used to be my favorite specially the lady with the glasses. She was so kind and welcoming. Anyways The food was very average and it was quite disappointing when i couldnt find my regular order on the menu because they changed the menu it seemed and we werent allowed to customise. The lady taking the order said no to everything (i wish i knew her name but she had short ponytail) and to my surprise we werent given chopsticks while every other table had chopsticks! May be she thought we werent good with chopsticks because we dont look like them! She also had an attitude and a smirk when we asked for chopsticks! Overall the whole experience was bad and dont think im going back there for a long time now till they reshuffle their staff and bring the...

Hi, I have been to Mr. Zhang's more times then I can count in the past two years. Me and my wife have always loved it there. The food was unmatched and the staff were always so kind and polite, until yesterday.

We were not allowed to customise orders which we could do in the past for certain dishes and staff were very closed and did not talk to us and they were also, so loud when cleaning table.

They now have changed the menu, but not for the better. You now tick a selection on a white menu of which now I feel the personal touch is totally gone. The staff have all changed and are kind of rude. In particular one lady who just said no to everything we asked. She even just put a knife and fork on our table specifically when all other tables had chopsticks. I couldn't have been more disappointed yesterday when visiting as the relaxed and calm place me and my wife came to know and love has changed so...
