I never send food back ever. And I never complain. But at £18.95 for a roast dinner I had to.

We had been to The Blackburne years ago for a roast and it was amazing. It also has a good reputation for it roasts through word of mouth. But this time around it was potentially the worst roast dinner I've ever had. This was a late Father's Day treat for my dad so it's a shame we had such a bad experience really.

The first red flag should have been the starters. The choice was minimal and most involved some sort of dip or spread with toast. The only other option was cold meats. No soup of the day, mushrooms or anything that really required any effort on their part to cook. So we opted out of starters and went straight for the roast and some sides.

We both ordered the beef with a side of pigs in blanket and stuffing balls to share. The next red flag for me was how quick it came out...maybe 5 minutes later. I'm all for efficient service and I realise a lot of things are prepped in advance but it's always a bit suspicious when the food comes out almost immediately for me.

The roast was presented all on top of each other so you can't really see what it's like til you've separated everything on the plate (another thing I'm not a massive fan of just put it all out on the plate not in a big pile). However, it was immediately clear to me that the pigs in blanket were not cooked. They were white in colour. I tried to eat one and when I cut through it, it was quite clearly very under done. I then tried to cut a potato...something else that needed longer on the boil before roasting as it was rock hard inside The cabbage also tasted like it had spent minimum time in hot water.

My dad expressed his was bad and at that point I knew I had to complain because he will eat anything. It's not really hard to mess a roast up but everything on that plate was cooked so poorly.

We got both meals re done and delivered fresh...was it better? Erm it was edible. Was it worth 19 pound? Absolutely not. Myself and my dad are plate cleaners we will finish our meal every time but I gave up trying to enjoy it and left some of mine as did my dad. They kept coming over asking if it was better and I'd just shrug and say it's okay. As I say I do hate complaining and I didn't want to say again this is not good food as I felt like everyone around us was thinking we were being awkward.

But it was the worst Sunday roast I've ever had the misfortune to pay for. It's worth pointing out they did take my dad's lunch off the bill, however, it's a good job I still checked the items and not just the total as they had also put a £7.75 glass of Shiraz onto it that we did not order. That just topped the whole experience off really.

I was so disappointed as I was looking forward to this amazing roast dinner that I've read about in the Echo etc. and it appears other people were getting a better service than us around us. The couple next to us got decently browned and crispy pigs in blanket first time round. Or maybe people prefer hard roasties and raw cabbage. Maybe we were just unlucky. But we won't...

The Blackburne Arms in Liverpool truly is a gem when it comes to dining and drinking experiences. We had the pleasure of trying their roast lamb dinner and was blown away by the quality of the food, as well as the outstanding customer service and attention given by Danielle.

The roast lamb dinner was cooked to perfection - tender, succulent and full of flavour. The portion size was more than adequate and left us feeling completely satisfied. It was clear that the chefs at Blackburne Arms take great pride in their dishes and use only the freshest, high-quality ingredients. Their customer services was exceptional, Danielle and the rest of the team, they made us feel incredibly welcome and were attentive to our needs throughout the meal. The price of the roast lamb dinner and the drinks were also very reasonable, especially considering the quality of the food and the level of service provided. It's no wonder that Blackburne Arms has been a go-to spot for a roast dinner. In addition to their amazing roast lamb dinner and exceptional customer service, Blackburne Arms also boasts a selection of export lagers, cocktails, wine, and local beers. Whatever your preferred drink may be, they have something to suit all tastes. And let's not forget about their delicious pudding selection! The passion fruit cheesecake was an absolute standout for me and I highly recommend giving it a try, they also have other options to choose including their famous sticky toffee pudding.

Overall, Blackburne Arms is a must-visit for anyone looking for a great dining and drinking experience in Liverpool. From the delicious food to the outstanding service and impressive drink selection, this place has it all. Don't miss out on the opportunity to try their roast lamb dinner and passion fruit cheesecake - you won't be disappointed!

We will come back definitely, cause finally found the place for our...

What an unexpected surprise this lovely little place was. We had booked this because it was close to family, whom we visit on a monthly basis, but also close to the Liverpool Philamonic where we were seeing a show. Upon entering the pub we were greeted by a friendly staff member who already knew who we were (i guess because everyone else had already checked in) . She took us out of the pub and into another door, to our room. This was fab as we expected the entrance to be via the pub, so having a separate entrance meant not traipsing through the pub when we got back. We have read some reviews of the hotel needing some refurbishment and i can saw we were extremely pleased with the room. It had been tastefully decorated, and whilst small was perfect for what we wanted. The bed comfortable, a kettle and water and even shower gel and hair wash was provided, which is not what we expected, ,so was a lovely bonus. We did pop into the bar after our night out and had a drink and the atmosphere was great with live music playing. The windows are old so do let in some drafts but with the heating on it was fine and we had a very comfortable night. There are onlt two things we would point out, as we like to be honest in our reviews. (1) you get given a bar of soap, and it would be good to have a saucer to place this on (2) the towel rail in the bathroom was a tiny cute ladder, but as the bathroom was small it got in the way and we moved it into the room. It would be good as there is space to put something like this on the wall instead. All in all this is a hidden gem in Liverpool. 10mins walk into the town, friendly staff and amazing rooms for the money. We do plan to go again and are waiting on a call back about making a...

I recently dined at Blackburn Arms and overall, it was a delightful experience. The food was truly great, filled with flavors that delighted the palate. However, there was one small drawback - we were seated by the door, which made the area a little chilly. Despite that, the nostalgic pub atmosphere added a touch of charm to the entire experience. Now, let's talk about the food. It was simply outstanding. The flavors were rich and satisfying, and each dish was prepared with great care. The roast dinner, in particular, left a lasting impression. The tender meat and perfectly roasted vegetables were a true treat for the taste buds. It reminded me of a traditional homemade Sunday roast, which added a sense of nostalgia to the dining experience. The only downside was the seating arrangement. Being seated by the door resulted in a slightly colder atmosphere, which can be a bit uncomfortable, especially during colder months. However, the warm and friendly service made up for it to some extent. The staff was attentive and accommodating, ensuring that we had a pleasant dining experience despite the chilly seating area. In conclusion, Blackburn Arms is a great place for delicious food and a nostalgic pub experience. If you're looking for a fantastic roast dinner, this is definitely a place to try. While the seating by the door may make it a bit colder, the overall quality of the food, friendly service, and nostalgic atmosphere make it a memorable dining experience.
